A controversial resort remodel is underway at Disney World.
The Cabins at Fort Wilderness Resort are undergoing a transformation, making them more modern and turning them into Disney Vacation Club cabins. The cabins will include some fun nods to previous Disney World attractions and be quite beautiful. And now it seems that updated DVC cabins will even get a special hotel perk!
While not everyone agrees that these new cabins should be so modern and less rustic, construction has begun on them nonetheless. Previously, the Wilderness Cabins did not qualify for Extended Evening Hours, but it appears that as soon as they officially open as the DVC Cabins at Fort Wilderness, guests staying there will indeed qualify for the perk!
Thanks to a DFB reader, we were notified about this Extended Evening Hours qualifying hotels change, and got very excited! It’s great to see that more guests will have the opportunity to stay in the parks after regular hours. You can see the list of Deluxe Resorts that can currently receive this perk. The Cabins at Fort Wilderness as the DVC cabins will have access in the late evenings.
Disney Deluxe Villa Resorts also qualify for Extended Evening Hours. This perk allows guests at these select hotels to stay in one of the four parks after regular hours on select nights. You get extra time to ride the rides with generally lower wait times. It’s a really nice perk, especially when you’re paying a little more to stay in one of the nicer resorts.
The new DVC Cabins have a projected opening date of July 1st! We can’t wait to check them out in person. But in the meantime, you can see a virtual tour of the new cabins at the link below!

It seems that Disney has become very discriminatory. Those who are rich and can afford the deluxe accommodations are the only ones who get the extra perks now. The extra hours should be like it use to be when anyone staying in the park got a chance for extra morning or evening hours. This change along with Genie + shows how greedy Disney corporates have gotten. I have always loved going to Disney but when it takes me at least three years to save up enough money to stay in a value resort with no special perks then I think it is time for a new vacation destination.

Once again, this is a slap in the face to all those that work so hard and save to be able to stay on resort but cannot afford the higher priced hotels. Class segregation. Sorry, Disney is catering to those that have more financial resources. Everyone staying on property used to be able to participate in the Extra “Magic” (Nothing Magical about exclusion) hours…now only those with deeper pockets can participate.
I know some use the argument that people staying at more expensive Disney Resorts should get extra perks for the money…they already do… the amenities are sooo much nicer than the cheaper hotels. It is sad for the young families saving up everything they have to take the kids to Disney and stay on property but then are told you are not able to participate in evening guest hours.
