Magic Kingdom has A LOT going on right now! We are expecting lots of new things including a new Country Bear show called Country Bear Musical Jamboree and a new smelling experience coming to Storybook Circus.
And, of course, we’ve got Tiana’s Bayou Adventure coming right up! However, we noticed that Disney World has changed something major between the original concept art and today for this attraction…let’s take a look.
Tiana’s Bayou Adventure opens this summer in Magic Kingdom. The ride will have us joining “Princess Tiana and Louis on a musical adventure – featuring some of the powerful music from the film – as they prepare for their first-ever Mardi Gras performance.”
We recently went back to look at the ORIGINAL concept art for this new attraction, and we were shocked! Now keep in mind, this is the original Blue Sky concept art for Tiana’s Bayou Adventure. Disney creates this concept art very early on in the process, and since it is Blue Sky, it usually gets a lot of changes before it becomes a reality.
According to the Disney Imagineering website, “Blue Sky” is part of their creative development process. The focus at this stage is “what could it be.” Blue Sky ideas are concepts that Disney’s team is working on, but they’re not finalized or confirmed.
From the Blue Sky phase, the process moves into the concept phase where specifics are ironed out, and then they look at the actual feasibility. Next, is the design phase, then the production phase where they actually work on creating, installing, and fitting all the pieces together. So, even though we know this concept art was designed WAY before any sort of design and feasibility had been considered, we still love comparing what could have been to what we see currently.
Do you see that huge tree AND boat on top of the mountain? It looks drastically different from the flower covered mountain top we have now. We also noticed that the Tiana’s Foods water tower was not included in the original concept art. There are similarities between the two, but we can also tell that A LOT of decisions were made between the Blue Sky concept and now.
It is always super interesting to take a look back at the original concept art and see how the vision has changed. Maybe the boat concept has moved inside the ride! We’ll find out soon enough!

Apparently, the infrastructure of the mountain wouldn’t support the tree and boat addition.

Love all the lush green that is being added to that side of the park. Even if it looks kinda odd right across the street from Big Thunder and it’s dessert motif.
