Science may have gone too far. Specifically, I may have gone too far with my latest food experiment.
You see, McDonald’s and Krispy Kreme have been testing a partnership for a while now at select restaurants in Kentucky and Indiana. I live in Kentucky. There’s a McDonald’s with Krispy Kreme donuts right down the road. So obviously there’s only one logical thing to do: KRISPY KREME DONUT BIG MAC.
I know that’s what everyone was thinking when they heard that those delicious Krispy Kreme donuts would be available at the Golden Arches, so I went to test it out. For science, of course.
I ordered two donuts and a Big Mac for my experiment. It came out to $8.57 total (the Big Mac was about $5 and the donuts were $1.69, plus tax).
I removed the top and bottom bun from the Big Mac and replaced them with donuts. Behold my glorious creation!!
Some people on the team were concerned about the middle bun, but I personally thought it’d be too much to replace that with a THIRD donut. But maybe you’re stronger than I am and think that sounds incredible. If so, I totally respect that.
So now this is what I had. I did it. I did it because I CAN. But as Jonathan Van Ness would say, “Just because you Ameri-can doesn’t mean you Ameri-should.” So here’s the moral question: Should I have done this? Should I have created this monstrosity that will probably take years off my life with a single bite?
As soon as I bit into it, I knew that the answer was YES. WOW this was so much better than I thought it’d be.
Just to clarify, I’m not a big donut burger person (don’t tell AJ — she loves them). I know they’re super popular at fairs and stuff (and Everglazed in Disney Springs even has one on the menu), but they never sounded very good to me because it’s just a LOT. This Krispy Kreme Big Mac changed my mind.
Krispy Kreme donuts are light and airy, so replacing the bun with these two donuts didn’t even seem much heavier than a Big Mac normally does. It was definitely SWEETER, but not much heavier. The super-sweet glaze complements the savory beef and tangy sauce surprisingly well.
The only bites I didn’t love were the ones with a lot of pickles in them — the sour pickles just didn’t really mesh with the super sweet donuts (and that’s coming from someone who normally LOVES pickles). But other than that, I thought it was incredible. I was just sitting at the table in McDonald’s by myself, eating my donut Big Mac, cracking up laughing because of how ridiculous and delicious it was.
In fact, I only had ONE regret when it came down to it: I should NOT have eaten the whole thing. The first half was HEAVEN. Then I kept going because I just couldn’t stop, and by the time I got home and started editing my photos, just the sight of the burger made me feel a lil’ bit queasy. I’d definitely recommend splitting one with a friend and getting some fries or something on the side to even out the intense barrage of flavors coming from the burger.
I also don’t think this hack would work with any other donuts. If you did want to try it with Dunkin’ donuts or some similarly heavy donuts, I’d just use one donut and cut it in half instead of using two.
My coworker Kayleigh also had the brilliant idea of taking the Krispy Kreme Big Mac home and pressing it in a panini press, so I’ll definitely be trying that in the future.
I know you’re all feeling super inspired and impressed by my fantastic creation right now, and you’re probably wondering when YOU can do it too. I have good news! McDonald’s recently announced that they’re planning to sell Krispy Kreme donuts at all of their locations nationwide! The rollout of this plan is going to take a while, though: Krispy Kreme donuts won’t make it to every single McDonald’s location until the end of 2026.
Until then, you’ll have to make two stops (one at Krispy Kreme and one at McDonald’s) in order to make yourself a donut Big Mac. But trust me when I say that it’s definitely worth the extra trip.

Cut the donut like you would a bagel add a 3rd slicd flattened for the middle instead of bun..it will taste much better and be easier to eat ….been making donut burgers/ sandwiches at home forever. Ham and swiss is a good combo too . Glazed donuts are more messy ,try the cake / old fasioned ones.
