We have been waiting a little over a month for more details about Universal’s new theme park, EPIC Universe.
Universal has been teasing us with posts on X (formerly Twitter) and Instagram about a special announcement coming today, March 28th. We even received a new coin that gave us a clue about what we might be learning at the next big reveal. Now, the time has come for Universal to dive deeper into the land of How to Train Your Dragon– Isle of Berk!
Universal’s EPIC Universe will feature five new lands — Celestial Park, The Wizarding World of Harry Potter — Ministry of Magic, SUPER NINTENDO WORLD, Dark Universe, AND How to Train Your Dragon — Isle of Berk. The last is the land that Universal is talking about today!
Get ready for a wild ride, because we’re coming at you with some dragon-sized news.
During the big announcement, we learned that the new land, How to Train Your Dragon — Isle of Berk will have a few different rides, a show, and some character meet-and-greets! The storyline of the land takes place between the first and second How To Train Your Dragon movies.
In their announcement, Universal said that Isle of Berk will be “a vibrant world where raucous Vikings and rambunctious dragons live together in hilarious harmony – based on the wildly popular How to Train Your Dragon film franchise.” Universal Orlando worked with DreamWorks Animation to create this land. They said that the theming extends to “immense architecture featuring hand-carved details, lush landscaping, and extraordinary heights of rolling hills surrounding vibrant dragon houses and local establishments.”
The entrance to the land will have two 40-foot-tall Viking statues, and once you get inside, you’ll see views of a sparkling lagoon and the Viking village.
The land will have four attractions, a live show, and some character meet-and-greets. The attractions are based on the main characters of the movie. Here’s an overview of what’s inside:
Hiccup’s Wing Gliders
This is a “family thrill coaster” where you’ll join Hiccup to test out “his latest glider contraption.”
The coaster reaches speeds of up to 45 miles per hour, taking visitors around the perimeter of the land and even across the lagoon.
The height requirement for this coaster is 40″, and children under 48″ must be accompanied by a supervising companion.
The Untrainable Dragon
This live show is based on the Untrainable show in Universal Beijing Resort. The show “takes guests on an unforgettable journey with beloved characters Hiccup, Toothless, Gobber, and Astrid as they work together to solve the mystery of The Untrainable Dragon.”
There will be music, impressive sets, and life-sized dragons.
Fyre Drill
The Viking twins from How To Train Your Dragon, Ruffnut and Tuffnut, are in charge of this next attraction.
You’ll board a dragon-headed boat, where you’ll get to “blast water cannons at flame-like targets to practice putting out fires – a crucial skill to master when living with dragons.”
On this ride, one side of the boat is competing with the other, and Universal has warned that “you will get soaked!” There is no height requirement for this ride, but children under 48″ must be accompanied by a supervising companion.
Dragon Racer’s Rally
Dragon Racer’s Rally is another thrill ride in this land.
You’ll get to “practice aerobatic maneuvers and high-speed barrel rolls on two Viking-made dragon-riding trainers that reach heights of up to 67 feet in the air.” Sounds INTENSE!
You get to control how “wild or mild” your ride is, so it can be as exciting as you choose! The height requirement for this ride is 48″.
Viking Training Camp
This is an adventure play area where the little ones can play and explore.
There’s a Viking agility course, a Toothless teeter-totter, baby Gronckle dragon climbers, and more.
Character Meet-and-Greets
In Haddock Paddock, you’ll get to meet Hiccup and Toothless!
Universal also said that you might encounter more characters throughout the land, including Vikings and dragons.
Restaurants and Shops
The main restaurant in this land is Mead Hall, which is “the beating heart of Berk and the village’s main gathering hall.”
The savory menu here will have “a variety of meats, fish, sandwiches and more along with a collection of meads and ciders.”
Spit Fyre Grill is a quick service restaurant with “hearty meals flame-seared by a helpful (unseen) dragon fry cook.”
Hooligan’s Grog & Gruel is a racing-themed food stand. Merchandise will be for sale at shops like Viking Traders, How to Treat Your Dragon, Hiccup’s Work Shop, and Toothless’ Treasures.

Cheryl says
Oh no!! More rides to try, get sick on and have to come to the realization that at 57 years old, I can’t handle all the rides anymore! I should have purchased the photo after the Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey ride, it was priceless! I did all I could to keep what little was in my stomach, down after getting off that ride. I was done for the day. Never again.
