Are you heading to Disney World in 2024?
Being that Disney World is open basically 24/7, you’ve got a variety of times and seasons throughout the year when you can plan your visit. Since Summer is fast approaching, we wanted to get your thoughts about not coming to Disney World during the summer and why. We asked and boy, did you deliver!
We reached out to our followers on Facebook to ask: “If you aren’t going to Disney World this summer, what’s the biggest reason WHY?” The results were pretty varied. We had quite a few people leave their opinions in the comments!
Now, let’s dive into the results!
1. Too Hot
We have a clear winner here (at over 350 of you with this response, it’s not even close). The vast majority of you expressed that the heat was your number one reason for staying far, far away from Disney World during the summer months. There were even quite a few of you who mentioned how visiting Disney World during the summer is like taking a trip to the surface of the Sun.
Let’s have a peek at some of your top responses:
- I live in Louisiana and it’s hot here, I ain’t bout to go further south to walk around all day knowing how hot it is😂 I wait for the cool breeze. Heading there this October.
- We are waiting til the fall! Orlando is too hot in the summer!
- Went last summer in the heat and won’t again. Too hot for me, hard to enjoy my happy place.
- It is too hot. When I was a kid we went in July and every picture is a smile on my face while dying of heat. If I don’t have to be in the south for the summer the happier I am.
- I’ve been in the summer and still had fun, but it’s ungodly hot and humid. I like going in Feb/March.
Since the summertime is when many families have their vacations and it’s their one chance to visit Disney World, we can understand why many of you would try to brave the heat (please for the love of everything…stay hydrated!), but we’re with you. It’s definitely a super hot time to be in the Most Magical Place on Earth.
2. Too Costly
In the second place, we COMPLETELY understand you when you mentioned that the cost of a Disney World feels like it’s out of control. (About 125 of you responded this way.) We’ve seen an upward trend of food prices, hotel prices, and flight ticket prices over the years, and that can definitely make the prospect of taking a vacation with the whole family seem very difficult and out of reach.
To that point, take a look at some of your top responses:
- “The cost. Otherwise, I’d happily go anytime, lol.
- “Money. What we used to spend for the whole family to go is now the cost of 1 person.”
- “Because I live on the other side of the world and it costs too much to fly to Florida from here. Look forward to going next year when I’m stateside again though.”
- “The cost! I spent 10,000 on our last trip there. It was a wonderful time, great memories. But hard to justify.”
- “The cost. When we travel to Disney, we go all out, so it’s an every-other-year trip for my family. I would LOVE to go every summer!! A girl can dream 🌠?
- “Cost. It takes years of saving every time we go.”
Like that last response mentioned, it can take years of saving anytime you want to go on a Disney vacation, which is perfectly understandable why you’d pass on heading to Disney World this summer.
3. Too Crowded
In third place, we hear you when you shared that the parks are getting too crowded. (About 115 of you had this response.) This is totally understandable, especially since during the summer many families descend on the parks.
Here’s a look at some of your top responses:
- “Crowds. I know that crowds are crazy what seems to be all the time now, but the summer is a whole other beast we really don’t want to deal with.”
- “The crowds are getting too much for me.”
- “The crowds are so big that Genie Plus doesn’t work.”
To that last point, even in those times when you are using Genie+, if the parks are at capacity, it feels like there’s still only so much that it can do for you, which makes sense why you’d rather not spend the money and still fight to try to get onto those favorite rides of yours.
Those were just some of your thoughts on why you won’t be visiting Disney World during the summer, and we’d love to find out more from you! Until then, keep it right here for all the latest Disney news!

We are waiting for 2025 so we can go to Epic Universe. But, we will never go in the summer for all reasons expressed.

I used to go every Summer in August. Love the heat. Now I don’t go because of hurricane season. Can’t deal with the air lines when that happens.

Definitely a money thing here. We were there for New Year’s, so technically, I’ve already been to Disney “this year” (we headed home Jan. 2). Between enticing COVID-era pricing, the 50th birthday festivities and decor, that time Taylor Swift came to Tampa and I used her concert as an excuse to also go to Disney, and New Year’s 2023, it’s time to refocus my finances on other priorities. I love Disney. But even Disney’s biggest fans are tired of the high costs.

I think it’s important to note that many people and families are cancelling trips, APs, DVCs, etc. due to the change in the DAS policies. There are some people who cannot do a Disney park without DAS and are being denied after qualifying for many years. Disney should be ashamed by the changes they made. They are excluding and discriminating against an entire group of guests.

Don’t know what DAS is? Please define.
Wendy says
Hi, Kenpec, thanks for your comment! DAS is for “Disability Access Service.”
