The Easter season is happening now at Disney World!
From meeting Mr. and Mrs. Easter Bunny to snacking on adorable easter treats, and checking out the Easter egg displays, we have loved all of the Easter festivities so far. We aren’t stopping there though, as we went and grabbed another Easter treat at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge.
We always love an excuse to make our way over to Animal Kingdom Lodge. It is a gorgeous hotel, with stunning views of the savanna. And a pretty high likelihood you can spot some animals out there!
However, we are not here to search for animals, but instead, we are here to try out a new Easter treat! We are making our way to the quick service restaurant located in the Jambo House at Animal Kingdom Lodge. The Mara is located overlooking the Uzima Springs pool area and is open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. You can grab a wide variety of eats, drinks, and snacks here. The menu features items with a taste of Africa, as well as American favorites.
While The Mara does not have any direct views of the animals, you can always grab your food to go and take it with you. The restaurant also has a large indoor seating area, as well as outdoor seats. Now it is time to get the Easter treat. You can find this treat in the “Grab & Go” market area, which features a variety of pre-packaged items, including The Carrot Tart!
Let’s just say that this tart is adorable! The Carrot Tart is carrot cake, cream cheese-citrus mousse with caramel insert, chocolate shell, and toasted coconut. You can get it for $6.49. Just look at how cute it is!
Of course, we had to take this treat around the resort for a couple of photos before digging in. The tart is shaped like a carrot, which is perched on top of the carrot cake bottom. Oh, and the orange part? It’s a chocolate SHELL!
We have definitely confirmed that it looks good, but will its taste measure up? Let’s cut into this carrot and see!
This treat has A LOT of mousse on top. The whole carrot body is made up of a cream cheese-citrus mousse with a caramel insert. The carrot is placed on top of a crust with carrot cake, topped with toasted coconut flakes. This dessert is very mousse-heavy, and if you don’t like that texture, you probably won’t be a fan of this treat.
We were surprised that the mousse had a floral note to it. We would describe it as a rose flavor. The mousse was light, fluffy, and creamy, and the caramel insert added a light caramel flavor to the taste. We would have liked the caramel insert to have a stronger caramel taste, though. The chocolate shell was super thin, but added a nice crunch to the mousse.
The carrot cake on the bottom was delicious! It was spiced and moist, we just wish there was more of it. It was only a thin layer, and it felt like it was gone way too soon. The crust provided a nice protective layer for the dessert, but it did not add much flavor and was a bit dry. We think it may have just been there to help keep the dessert together.
Overall, we really enjoyed the taste of this dessert! The mousse was really light and tasted great with the carrot cake bottom. Plus, it was super adorable. We got more of a rose flavor from the mousse, as opposed to a cream cheese-citrus, but it was still a good flavor. We just wish there was more carrot cake! While it may not be worth the trek out to Animal Kingdom Lodge unless you are a huge mousse fan, if you happen to be in the area, it is a tasty Easter treat to grab.
