Planning a Disney World trip is complicated enough without having to worry about severe storms, but unfortunately, it can be an inevitability at certain times of the year.
Experts have predicted that the 2024 hurricane season will be worse than previous years, and with it quickly approaching, it’s time to start preparing! Especially when you consider that we might be in for a seriously dangerous few months with new expert predictions.
It might be hard to believe, but the 2024 hurricane season is right around the corner. We’ve seen predictions from chief meteorologist Eric Burris with WESH News, who indicated that most of the weather that Florida has been experiencing this winter has seen some commonalities, it’s starting in the Gulf of Mexico and moving E or NE. He shared that the Gulf now in March has temperatures that are typical of May, indicating that the warm waters may have a big influence on this year’s weather and hurricanes.
Hurricane season runs from the beginning of June through the end of November, and experts are now predicting it will be “potentially explosive.” AccuWeather has revealed its seasonal forecast for the year and it looks like a doozy.
The forecast is predicting 20 to 25 named storms, with between eight and 12 of those strengthening into hurricanes. Four to six of the storms could potentially directly impact the United States. On average, the season typically has 14 named storms.
The Sun Sentinel reports that in 2023, we saw 20 named storms with seven hurricanes. Idalia was the only named storm to make landfall when it struck the Big Bend area of Florida as a Category 3 storm. AccuWeather lead forecaster Alex DaSilva said, “All indications are pointing toward a very active and potentially explosive Atlantic hurricane season in 2024.”
Meteorologists use the Accumulated Cyclone Energy (ACE) to measure a hurricane season’s power. A normal score is 123. Last year’s score was above average at 145.6, and AccuWeather predicts this year will reach between 175 and 225.
Of course, these are all just predictions for now, but it’s still important to be prepared for anything if you’ll be traveling to Disney World during hurricane season.  Disney World is always prepared during a hurricane and typically makes your stay in one of the hotels fun and memorable (as well as safe, of course).
No matter when you’re visiting Disney World, it’s always a good idea to be prepared for rainy weather. Plus, with La Niña winds coming later this year, experts are predicting more rain than normal. Pack those ponchos and umbrellas!

a concern for WDW, but a much serious concern for Disney properties in Vero Beach and Hilton Head Island, as well as anyone who lives within 10 miles of the coast of Florida. WDW is famous for its preparations and readiness for natural disasters and taking care of their guests. It would be nice if Disney took care of their employees as well as they look out for their guests. Disney’s Vero Beach just received a massive beach reclamation compliments of Indian River County.
