We LOVE Disney World Cast Members! They work hard so we can have a magical time at Disney World!
We asked some of our team members who used to work for the Mouse about the Disney myths they wish would just go away.
Disney World would simply not be the same without the cast members. As Walt said, “it takes people to make the dream a reality.” Cast members are the backbone of the Disney experience, and we are sharing some of the myths that they are a bit tired of hearing.
Let’s get to the six Disney myths that cast members wish would just go away!
Some Things Cast Members Just Can’t Fix
Cast members really do want to help make your trip as amazing as possible. However, there will be things that they can’t fix or things they simply are not allowed to do. A Cast Member working at a snack stand probably won’t be able to help you out with a ride being down across the park. They can likely direct you to a cast member that could be of more assistance, but every Cast Member won’t be able to fix every problem.
As well, sometimes a Cast Member won’t be able to do what you hope. As much as they might want to let you come in early for your Lightning Lane time, it may not always be feasible. While it never hurts to ask a Cast Member, also be prepared that they won’t be able to grant every request.Â
You Can’t Show Up Whenever for a Reservation
You managed to snag an Individual Lightning Lane for Rise of the Resistance, and you are so excited to ride! However, the only one available was for 10AM, and you won’t be in the parks until closer to 2PM. No worries, you tell yourself, of course they will let me on, I paid for it! It can be frustrating trying to book the right times for Lightning Lanes and dining reservations but understand that these systems are in place for a reason. Just because you booked a return time or bought an Individual Lightning Lane for a ride does not mean you will be able to use it whenever. The same also goes for other reservations, like dining reservations.
There may be some leeway depending on the situation, but know that being let in outside your reservation window is an exception to the rule. It will not always be the case — and what may have been okay one day, may not be okay the next. Cast members want you to be able to experience everything you want, but showing up outside of your reservation window will also affect other guests. One guest showing up late isn’t a big deal, but imagine that multiplied by hundreds. The reservation times are there for a reason, so please try your best to show up for your scheduled time. Â
Disney World Is NOT A Place to Spread Ashes
This is one of those things that you wish didn’t have to be said. But there have been multiple instances of people bringing their loved one’s ashes to Disney World to spread. We are huge Disney fans too, but this is a big no-no. Even if your loved ones last dying wish was to be spread around Disney World, we would appreciate it if you chose somewhere else to spread them.
We understand that Disney World is much more than a theme park for so many people, but Cast Members would really like the spreading of ashes to stop happening. Ashes are considered a bio-hazard, and result in rides and attractions being closed for all guests while clean-ups take place.
Yelling “Andy!” Will Not Make a Cast Member Fall Over
This has been a myth that has been going on for a while, and while it has mostly died out, it definitely still happens!
Unfortunately, yelling “Andy” will not cause a Cast Member to fall over. Even though it might look cool to see a bunch of people drop to the floor every time someone yells “Andy,” it will not have the result you expect.
As Much As They Would Like To, They Can’t Control The Weather
We know as much as the next person how frustrating it can be when you are in the parks during bad weather. Whether it be pouring down rain or sweltering hot, cast members do not have any power to change the weather.
Unfortunately, Disney has not been able to design a big dome yet, so for now we will just have to roll with what the weather has for us. It is okay to be frustrated by the weather, but just remember that Cast Members can’t control it, and it won’t help anyone to take your frustrations out on them.
Hotel Guests Still Need a Reservation for the Hotel’s Restaurants
While this may be obvious to some, one of our team members said that hotel guests would often show up to one of the hotel’s restaurants that required reservations without having a reservation. The guests thought that since they were staying at the resort, they did not need a reservation to dine in any of the restaurants.
While you will be able to walk-up to some hotel restaurants, even guests staying at the resort will need a reservation for the most popular ones. Unfortunately booking a stay at the Polynesian won’t give you access to ‘Ohana whenever you have the craving.
As always, whenever you are in the parks remember to be kind to Cast Members! They are there to help make your vacation magical and memorable. While they won’t be able to make every moment perfect, know they are trying their best. We always appreciate every single cast member that helps make our Disney vacations unforgettable! We hope this list of myths will shed a bit of light on things cast members wish would go away.
