It’s almost impossible to keep up with all the new Disney movies and TV shows. There’s just so MUCH always going on with the company, whether it be with Disney Animation, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, or more!
This year is proving to be a BIG year for Disney releases. We’re getting a NEWÂ Star Wars series on Disney+, along with a sequel to Moana . However, did you know a NEWÂ The Little Mermaid series is in the works? It’s Disney Junior’s Ariel, and it’s all about Ariel when she was just a kid — and Disney just dropped the first trailer!
We’re just going to warn you now — this is not The Little Mermaid you already know. This is Ariel as an 8-year-old girl who’s just living her best childhood “Under the Sea” before she decides she wants to be where the people are.
In the new trailer, Ariel is joined by her family, friends, and even Ursula, who is certainly not like how we remember her. In fact, in Disney Junior’s Ariel, Ursula is a sort of mentor for Ariel and her sisters. Say what?!?!
While the storyline is different from the original movie (and the new live-action movie), you’ll still see familiar characters like Flounder!
Visit and explore Atlantica with Ariel, her friends, and King Triton. They learn about magic and more! In the words of Ariel, it looks “fin-tastic!”
Disney Junior’s Ariel is set to arrive on Disney Junior and Disney+ sometime this summer! We’ll let you know more when we get more details. If you would like to see the whole trailer, check out the video below.
We’ll continue to bring you the latest Disney entertainment updates, so stay tuned to DFB.

My daughter’s favorite princess. I’m not sure about this though. When was Ursula her aunt? That’s not even in the orginal story where the mermaid trades her tail for legs and lives with pain in her feet and then in the end turns into an air spirit. But even in that story the witch offers the mermaid a chance to be a mermaid again. Why do they keep changing stories with remakes?
