If you’re like us, you probably don’t feel settled at the airport until you’ve dropped off your luggage, made it through security, and laid eyes on your gate. In fact, we often can’t breathe that sigh of relief until we’re in our seat, on the plane, and ready to take off. Anyone else?
The airport can be a BUSY place — especially during a holiday like Thanksgiving, spring break, or Christmas. But there are ways to combat the crowds! Don’t want to wait in the standby line at the airport? Turns out there are all kinds of secret “skip-the-line” services you can use at the airport; you just have to know where to look!
We’ve told you about MCO Reserve. We’ve shared all kinds of tips about how to prepare for a long TSA line at the Orlando Airport. But there’s one MORE service we need to talk about — and using it is free!
There’s a special program called Delta Digital ID, and with the support of the Transportation Security Administration, eligible Delta SkyMiles Members can save some time at the airport! The service is still being tested, but you can try it out NOW at five airports, including Atlanta (ATL), Detroit (DTW), Los Angeles (LAX) and New York (LGA and JFK).
OK, so here’s how it works. Delta Digital ID uses “facial matching” to allow members to use dedicated bag drops and security lines, “allowing you to breeze through without having to take out your phone or wallet.” That’s right — imagine a world where you don’t even need your phone or wallet at the airport. Now THAT’S the future.
Where do we sign up?! Well, to be eligible for Delta Digital ID, you must:
- Be a SkyMiles Member (It’s free to join)
- Enroll in TSA Precheck (and have a Known Traveler Number)
- Have a valid U.S. passport
That’s all you need! As long as you qualify, this service is free to use, and participation is optional. Keep in mind that TSA Precheck is free for active military members, DoD civilian employees, and other qualifying citizens, including those with select Travel Rewards Credit Cards.
To activate Delta Digital ID, you must enter your passport information and TSA PreCheck Known Traveler Number in your Delta SkyMiles profile. Then, opt into Delta Digital ID within your SkyMiles profile or at check-in using your Fly Delta app. Once you’re at the airport, look for a green “Digital ID” sign at dedicated bag drop locations and security lines.
This handy feature can help you save some serious time at the airport! We’ll keep our eyes out for updates to see if Delta rolls out this service to more airports. In the meantime, we’re always on the lookout for the latest travel news, so stay tuned for more.
