Listen y’all, someone has to say it.
We are Disney FOOD Blog, after all, so we guess we’ll be the ones to say what everyone has been thinking. There has been a snack at Disney World that we used to LOVE. However, there have been so many changes that have been made to this snack that it just… hurts us to think about it. We can’t continue holding it in anymore, so we need to tell you about it.
For this snack, we’re heading over to Disney’s Animal Kingdom. Generally, we have had a TON of winners when it comes to snacks that we’ve tried here. So, when this snack slowly began changing things, we were hoping that it would be for the better. Unfortunately, that wasn’t the case — and now we find it downright depressing.
Let’s go on a leisurely stroll over to the space between Africa and Asia, and head to Mr. Kamal’s to see what we’re talking about. Honestly, we feel like this is where Saucegate began for us — because the AMAZING sauces that came with these fries slowly began getting taken away from us.
However, the sauces aren’t where this story begins. If you stopped by this kiosk in 2017, you’d be met with a VERY different snack. These fries used to be topped with a tzatziki salad and sriracha ketchup — let us all take a moment of silence for what we lost.
After we had the DELICIOUS experience of those fries, eventually the tzatziki salad was taken away from us. We were still left with the delicious seasoned fries and a wide array of sauces, so we weren’t complaining too much. Over time, we’ve seen a TON of different sauce options come and go. At one point or another, you’d be able to find Saffron Aioli, Honey Kimchi Ketchup, Tandoori Honey Mustard, Curried Honey Mustard, Korean Chili Ketchup, Sriracha Ketchup, and more!
Over time, these sauces have rotated in and out, and eventually, we recently were left with Curried Honey Mustard and Korean Chili Ketchup. We weren’t too happy, but we were still excited that we had two good sauce options. At this point, it felt like this snack was a shell of what it once was, but we accepted it.
However, we were at Animal Kingdom one day in mid-2023 when we noticed something — something BIG. There was only ONE sauce on the menu to get with your fries. Up until now, we just rolled with it. However, this is where we drew the (metaphorical) line. The only sauce available for these seasoned fries is Sriracha Mayonnaise.
While we think it is delicious, we miss what this snack used to be. We might be a little dramatic when we talk about this, however, there is no denying that this delicious snack slowly made its descent into depressing territory. Since we’ve seen these sauces rotate a lot in the past. we’re hoping that this change is only temporary, and that they bring back a larger selection of the sauces we used to be able to snag with these fries. While the fries themselves are still delicious, the sauces really added another layer to the flavor profile — and we miss that.
We’re hoping that they will at least return the Sriracha Ketchup in the near future, since that is the only plant-based sauce option that they used to serve — and our plant-based friends deserve a sauce to go with these delicious fries.
If these fries used to be your go-to but you want to try something new since they are lacking in their sauce department now, give the Corn on the Cob from Harambe Fruit Market, the Cheeseburger Steamed Pods from Satu’li Canteen, or the Churros from Nomad Lounge a try!
We feel like this is where our lack of trust in sauces began at Disney World, but that is a conversation for another day. In the meantime, keep checking back in with us at DFB for the latest!

Those Tzatziki fries were one of the best snack in property in my opinion. I was so sad to see they didn’t have the topping anymore.

How about the strange phenomenon of all the hotel quick eats losing any variety or “local” flare? I went in 2021, and while the offerings weren’t quite as full as before the shutdowns, they certainly had more than burgers and plant-based.

Tziki fries were fabulous.
I’m done with Mr. Kamal’s unless they come back.
