May the Force Be With You.
We’re in Disneyland celebrating the Season of the Force, which is a huge Star Wars celebration happening from now through June 2nd. This celebration brings a fun Star Wars overlay to Space Mountain called Hyperspace Mountain, as well as new merchandise, PhotoPass Magic Shots, a Jabba the Hutt popcorn bucket, and more! Of course, we’re most excited about the new Star Wars snacks, and we’ve been running all over Disneyland to try them out.
We started in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge with the Fried Chicken Baos from Docking Bay 7 Food and Cargo. These are Two Crispy Chicken Baos, Spicy Katsu Sauce, and Creamy Slaw for $14.99. The bao bun and the sauce are packed with flavor. The sauce is sweet and tangy, but there’s just not enough of it for us.
However, the slaw tasted kinda’ fishy and we weren’t big fans of it. Also, the chicken was tougher and blander than we expected. It still kinda’ works, though, thanks to the bao, but the ingredients by themselves don’t stand very well on their own. We will also warn you that this packs a bit of heat, so if you’re averse to spicy food, we’d recommend skipping. We also think the price is a little steep for what you end up getting.
Over at Kat Saka’s Kettle, you can get the Celto Slush, a Plant-based pandan-flavored horchata topped with cold brew for $6.49. If you like cold brew, you’ll like this. If you also like Horchata, you’ll love this. This is the perfect frozen drink for a hot day, too, but it also has a good balance of sweet and coffee flavors. We will say it’s more on the sweet side, though. Would we get this again? ABSOLUTELY! We think this could be as good, if not better, than the Cold Brew Black Caf at Docking Bay 7 — there, we said it!
Then we made our way over to Galactic Grill to try the Watermelon Slush with Death Star Glow Cube for $12.19. One, this thing melts fast. Other than that, though, it tastes like a melted Jolly Rancher, which we have no complaints about. The glow cube is fun, but it’s obviously what makes the drink so pricey.
We also grabbed the Bantha Burger, which is made with 50/50 Beef and Vegetable Patty, Marinated Pork Belly, American Cheese, Asian-inspired Slaw, and Sambal Sweet Mayo on a Toasted Brioche Bun for $15.99. In case you were wondering, Banthas are those creatures in Star Wars that sorta’ look like wooly mammoths with spiral horns. Also, don’t worry — there are no actual banthas in this burger.
This burger has got a SERIOUS kick and the spiciness is the dominant flavor (be warned). The burger has a lot going on, but it’s almost impossible to taste other flavors because that heat is just so overwhelming. It’s also a bit too salty. So yeah, TOO much spice and TOO much salt. We also thought the pork belly was very dry.
We left the park and made our way over to Disney’s Grand Californian Resort. The Great Hall Cart there has some special Star Wars-themed snacks, too, including the Wookiee Cookie for $10, which is a chocolate lover’s DREAM. It’s SO chocolatey, y’all.
This cookie even has chocolate frosting INSIDE and that just takes it up an extra notch plus adds a nice texture. When Jabba the Hut asked for Han Solo and the Wookiee, this is the Wookiee we think he really wanted (yes, we imagine Jabba as a chocolate fiend, for some reason).
The Macaron Box for $21 comes with six delicious macarons. They have a nice space theme with their pretty sparkle paint splatter on the cookies.
The cookies are light and airy. The filling inside adds a subtle caramel flavor. We will recommend these, even though they cost over $20. Although you could share, we’re going to tell you, we totally wouldn’t — GET YOUR OWN.
We also HAD to get the Millennium Falcon Bucket that came with Space Rock Cookies. These are a great take on the classic chocolate chip cookie. The “space rocks” are like Whoppers but you also have chocolate chips, so this is another great treat for those who love chocolate (it’s us). However, we did have one complaint about the cookies: they were a little hard. We prefer a cookie that’s a little more…Chewy (see what we did there?).
We don’t know about you, but we are FULL. If you’re looking to try out these snacks for yourself, be sure to visit Disneyland for Season of the Force!
