When it comes to planning a Disney World trip, there are certain things you need to look out for.
Maybe it’s planned construction or cut parade times that catch you by surprise. And, while we consider ourselves to be somewhat experts on the topic (to say the least!) — we have an even greater pool of Disney experts at our disposal too. So, of course, that’s who we turned to in this case!
We asked our readers on Facebook what their BIGGEST red flags are when planning a Disney World trip — and here’s what they said!
Group Trips
Sometimes group trips are unavoidable, but quite a few of our readers replied and shared that they do everything in their power to avoid going to Disney World whenever possible. Sure, it’s still possible to have a good time in the parks if you are with a group, but from what we’ve experienced, more people = more opinions which can make for some awkward moments.
If you are going to Disney World with a group, there are a few things you can do to ease the tension. Our best tip is to split up! Not everyone needs to do the exact same thing all at the same time. In fact, in most situations, you won’t even be able to do that anyway thanks to Disney World rules. Taking breaks from the parks and making sure you’re hydrated can also help!
Why Going to Disney World With Your Family Might Be a Terrible Idea
Holidays and School Breaks
This one may seem like a no-brainer, but then again…there are still hundreds of thousands of people who plan their Disney World trips during these times year after year. We know that for many people, visiting during holidays and school breaks is really their only chance to even visit Disney World, but for many others — it would be an absolute nightmare to visit then.
If you can’t avoid visiting Disney World during these times, Genie+, Lightning Lanes, Early Theme Park Entry, and Extended Evening Hours will be your best friends.
runDisney Races
Did you know Disney World actually hosts races where runners can compete in marathons?! It’s true, and runDisney events are only getting more popular with each event. runDisney hosts several race weekend events throughout the year, with distances ranging from 5Ks to full marathons.
And, as you might expect, quite a few people attend these events — we’re talking thousands of people. You know what that means — yep! Crowds. Our readers make sure to double-check the race calendar when planning trips to avoid any potentially chaotic weekends.

Trips in the Summer
You may not have noticed, but Disney World is in Florida — and Florida isn’t called the Sunshine State for no reason! It gets HOT in the parks — a wet, humid, heat that can be utterly stifling and if you’re not used to it, it can really ruin your trip. In addition to the heat, you’ve also got the looming threat of a sunburn hanging over your head to.
Because of this, many of our readers said they avoid going to Disney World during the summer months for these reasons alone. But, staying hydrated, taking precautions like wearing sunscreen, and staying in the shade can really make a huge difference.
Hurricane Season
Experts have predicted that the 2024 hurricane season will be worse than previous years, so it’s no wonder our readers are avoiding Disney World during that time like the plague. Hurricane season runs from the beginning of June through the end of November, and experts are now predicting it will be “potentially explosive.”
Luckily, Disney World is no stranger to hurricanes and has quite a few procedures in place should you need to modify or cancel your trip. And, if you end up being in Disney World during a hurricane, Cast Members are trained to keep you safe!
