We’ve got a real treat coming soon to the Magic Kingdom. A new ride! That’s right — there’s a brand-new, never-before-seen ride coming to Disney World, and we can’t wait. It’s called Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, and it will open in both Disneyland park and Disney World’s Magic Kingdom in 2024! In fact, Tiana’s Bayou Adventure will open in Disney World in the summer of 2024, and “later in 2024” in Disneyland. Below, you can see the current construction progress. If that big hill looks familiar, that’s because this ride was formerly known as Splash Mountain!
Back in 2020, Disney announced that Splash Mountain would close and get a complete makeover. The new attraction is inspired by The Princess and the Frog. But this won’t be the same old Princess and the Frog story we’ve seen before. Nope — Disney is creating a NEW story for the ride! But wait. We may have found a NEW clue that might give us some hints about the attraction.
OK, before we get to the detective work, we should probably start with a little backstory. So far, we don’t know the full story of what’s going to happen on Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, but Disney did reveal a short synopsis. We know the story will pick up during New Orleans’ Carnival season, and Tiana is hosting a Mardi Gras Party for the people of New Orleans — the community that has supported her successful restaurant. (The storyline is set about a year after the movie.) Before the big event, Tiana realizes that the party is “missing a key ingredient,” and she needs help finding it.
That’s where YOU will join Tiana, as Disney Imagineers revealed that guests will be active participants with Tiana on this adventure! Disney explained, “On Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, we’ll join Tiana and Louis on a trip to the bayou, where they meet all sorts of unexpected new friends who have a special role to play at the party.”
Whew! That sounds fun, right? Well, what do you know? We found a BOOK that sounded oddly familiar to the story we just shared. Yep, Amazon has a NEW picture book by actress, singer, and Disney Legend Anika Noni Rose, the voice of Tiana! The book “shows Princess Tiana on a never-before-seen New Orleans adventure!” But wait until you hear what the story is all about.
The book synopsis on Amazon explains, “After traveling all winter, Tiana and Naveen are back in New Orleans in time for Mardi Gras. Tiana wants everything to be just right, putting the finishing touches on their party favors and parade float. But then she gets an unexpected letter from Naveen’s parents, the king and queen of Maldonia. They’ve decided to join the celebration!” Oh, and by the way, here’s a preview of one of the NEW animatronic characters coming to Tiana’s Bayou Adventure. That’s Ralphie, Naveen’s younger brother.
The book description continues, “Determined to make it the best Mardi Gras ever, Tiana sets out on a new adventure with some old friends to find the perfect ingredients for a special addition. But soon she finds that perfect might not be the goal…and she may already have all she needs.” Hey…that sounds JUST like the description for Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, doesn’t it?!
That said, even if you WANTED to “spoil” the entire plot of the new attraction, you may be out of luck. The book will be released on October 22nd, 2024, but Tiana’s Bayou Adventure opens this summer. You can click the link below to pre-order the book NOW! That way, you’ll be among the FIRST to receive the new story when it’s available.
Disney is slowly dropping more and more hints about the new ride. We even got a NEW look at some new characters joining the ride, including a band of musical critters! In all, Disney hinted that seventeen characters will be part of the ride! We can’t WAIT to meet them.
We even noticed what looks like new lights (or street signs?) in the Magic Kingdom ride queue. What do you think? What’s under those coverings, Disney?!
In the meantime, we’re always on the lookout for the latest Disney news, so stay tuned for more.

Given the level of care (better animatronics and effects) this retheme appears to be receiving, there is a good change that TBA could be a sorely needed win for Disney Park fans.

Those are what the street signs look like in the French Quarter in New Orleans except here they’re painted black instead of white. Maybe white so they show up better? Je ne sais pas.
