Recently, Disney announced something that will change one of its theme parks FOREVER.
Walt Disney Studios Park in Disneyland Paris is getting renamed to “Disney Adventure World” as part of a massive overhaul, similar to how Disney reimagined California Adventure in Anaheim over twenty years ago. This new name is a sign that things are going to change a LOT in the park, and we think we know why this is finally happening.
When Walt Disney Studios Park opened in Disneyland Paris in 2002, it was met with some criticism, much like when Disney first opened Disney California Adventure. So, like it did with Disney California Adventure, Disney wants to reimagine the park.
“Embracing a transformation that involves the overhaul of more than 90% of Walt Disney Studios Park since its debut in 2002, we’re unveiling a fresh creative vision that has completely redefined our second gate,” Natacha Rafalski, President of Disneyland Paris, said, adding, “It’s set to offer unique adventures in immersive worlds, serving as a perfect complement to Disneyland Park.”
As you may know, World of Frozen is coming to the park, so this change coincides with shifting the focus of the park to more of an adventure theme. This opens the park to other potential lands, perhaps like the new Zootopia land at Shanghai Disney Resort or Fantasy Springs at Tokyo Disneyland Resort.
The park already has an Avengers Campus, as well as a Worlds of Pixar area, so some fans agree that it makes sense to rebrand it as something open to these broader concepts.
Tom Fitzgerald, Walt Disney Imagineering Chief Storytelling Executive and Senior Creative Executive for Disneyland Paris said, “These fully realized adventure worlds will become the focus of the park’s new identity and appear as realms that guests discover as they navigate deeper within the park and are invited to participate in adventures inspired by our most beloved stories.”
Did you catch that? Yep, Disney is giving the park an entirely NEW identity. In fact, several parts of the park are getting a makeover, including the main entrance, which will be a “vibrant, contemporary open-air movie studio.”
Then, you’ll be able to step into Arendelle in World of Frozen, which will bring new attractions and entertainment to the park. Another area of the park, Adventure Way, will bring a Tangled-themed attraction and a new table service restaurant.
Think about it — World of Frozen wouldn’t make as much sense being part of Walt Disney Studios Park. However, it makes much more sense as part of Disney Adventure Park. This gives Disney room to grow and expand on what they add to the park. Hopefully, it will breathe new life into what was once Walt Disney Studios Park just like what happened with Disney California Adventure.
