Disney fans, it’s time to get EXCITED. We’re here with an update on the vote for Disneyland’s $1.9 billion park expansion.
Announced in 2021, DisneylandForward came into play as a multi-year Disneyland and Anaheim Resort expansion and redesign that would expand and update two existing approvals from the 1990s. In layman’s terms, DisneylandForward would not only allow extra theme park development to the land surrounding the Disneyland Resort, but also expand the resort’s lodging, retail, parking, and dining options. Over the past few months, Disney representatives have been meeting with Anaheim’s city council to shed more light on the proposed plans — attempting to gain the council’s vote in favor of the expansion. Now, we have an update!
The Anaheim City Council met to review and vote on the DisneylandForward proposal on April 16th during its regular meeting at 5PM PT. We knew that if the plan was approved on the 16th, a second vote would be required at the Council’s next meeting on May 7.
Well, the vote was APPROVED!

Now, we’ll just have to wait on that second vote on May 7th. Regardless, this is BIG news. It’s the first step in moving forward with the actual theme park expansions!
Ken Potrock, president of the Disneyland Resort, says Disney is “excited for the city council’s initial approval of DisneylandForward as we move toward a final vote in May.”

When it came to theme park expansion, Disney proposed projects themed after Coco, Black Panther, Tangled, Frozen, Zootopia, Peter Pan, Tron, and Toy Story. During the meeting, Disney specifically referenced its other lands in international parks, such as the latest Zootopia Land at Shanghai Disney Resort, the World of Frozen at Hong Kong Disneyland, and the new Rapunzel’s Forest opening at Tokyo DisneySea later this year. To build more expansive lands and attractions, Disneyland would need these proposed city planning and zoning guidelines to be approved. Thus the purpose of the voting.
We’ve already passed a major obstacle, y’all. We’ll keep you updated with more news regarding DisneylandForward, so make sure to follow along so that you’re always in the loop.

Pris says
Disney would be better served if this money was spent in Florida. No one wants to go to California anymore!!
Chrystie says
I disagree with you Pris. I’ve been to California twice in the past year and it’s been two years since I’ve been to Disney World. For those of us on the West Coast it’s not as easy or as feasible to make it across country to go to the parks.
RickTR says
All these new lands always consist of one lame ride and multiple shops and restaurants.
Holly G says
Disney is very smart putting their money in CA and making Disneyland a muti day vacation spot.I live in FL and FL is no place to put any kind of money for Disney. Finish what they have started and wait for the Governor to be done with his term
