Disney Imagineer Dan Goozee has passed away.
The Hollywood legend died on April 7th at the age of 80 at West Hills Hospital & Medical Center, according to his son Rob.
The Hollywood Reporter shared that the acclaimed artist who created posters for movies like Clash of the Titans, Superman IV, and multiple James Bond films was 80 when he passed away. The acclaimed artist succumbed to an “age-related condition” he’d been battling for several years.
Goozee spent years as a Walt Disney Imagineering theme park consultant and crafted conceptual artwork for Disneyland Paris, Tokyo DisneySea, Splash Mountain and Big Thunder Mountain at Disneyland and Magic Kingdom, the Imagination Pavilion and Seas Pavilion at EPCOT, and the Tree of Life at Animal Kingdom.
He was born in Astoria, Oregon in 1943 and graduated from the ArtCenter College of Design in Pasadena in 1965. Shortly after, he got a job in the art department at Fox where he was a production illustrator for films like Doctor Dolittle (1967), Tora! Tora! Tora! (1970), The Poseidon Adventure (1972), and The Towering Inferno (1974).
Goozee was later honored by the Oil Painters of America, Watercolor West and the California National Watercolor Society, and more. You can see his 19-foot mural for Robert Mondavi’s Golden Vineyard Room at Disney’s California Adventure, too.
I was just informed that Dan Goozee, a VERY talented artist who visualized many of our favorite attractions, and (created EDL Plaza Inn murals) passed away. We all fought to have Dan illustrate our projects! He added that "magic" and will be greatly missed. pic.twitter.com/p2ejQJbFoQ
