If you’re going to Disney World soon, you might choose to venture outside of the Disney bubble to see what else Orlando has to offer! After all, there’s Universal Orlando nearby, along with lots of shops and restaurants throughout the city.
There are some really great restaurants in Orlando, but there are also a few that have experienced issues recently. Watch out for these eight Orlando restaurants that have had to shut down in April due to failed health inspections.
We found the information about these eight restaurants’ health violations from the Tallahassee Democrat. Most of these restaurants have re-opened after being re-inspected and passing the inspection.
Pascale Bakery
The Pascale Bakery location that was temporarily closed is the one on South Orange Blossom Trail. During an inspection on April 8th, 22 violations were found.
The high-priority violations included roach activity in the kitchen, raw animal food being stored near ready-to-eat food, and time/temperature control issues for food safety. As of April 11th, the time for the emergency order callback was extended, and there are no new updates yet.
Z Asian Vietnamese Kitchen
Z Asian Vietnamese Kitchen is located on East Colonial Drive. This restaurant has met inspection standards several times over the last few years, but during the April 10th inspection, 19 violations were found, and the restaurant was temporarily closed.
The high-priority violations included the dish machine not being sanitized properly, roach activity in the kitchen, time/temperature control for food safety, and a vacuum breaker missing at the mop sink faucet. The restaurant passed a follow-up inspection on April 11th and has reopened.
Hokkaido Chinese & Japanese Buffet
Hokkaido Chinese Japanese Buffet on South Apopka Vineland Road usually has met inspection standards. This is the first time we can see in the records that it has had to temporarily close due to a failed inspection. On April 9th, the restaurant was closed to deal with several high-priority violations.
Some of those violations included food-contact surfaces not being sanitized after cleaning or before use, raw animal food being stored near ready-to-eat food, and roach activity in the kitchen. The restaurant complied and corrected the violations, passing a re-inspection the same day.
Sanz 911
Sanz 911 on South Orange Blossom Drive failed an inspection on April 5th with six violations and was temporarily closed. The high-priority violations included running with no potable running water and operating with an expired Division of Hotels and Restaurants license. During a reinspection on April 8th, no violations were found.
Run & Run Chinese Food
Run & Run Chinese Food on Palm Parkway has been issued warnings before and was temporarily closed on April 4th with 25 violations.
The high-priority violations included food-contact surfaces not being sanitized after cleaning or before use, live flying insects in the kitchen, pesticide and insecticide labeled for household use only being used in the restaurant, raw animal food being stored with ready-to-eat food, roach activity, and temperature control issues for food safety. The restaurant reopened on April 8th after passing a reinspection.
Maryland Fried Chicken
The Maryland Fried Chicken restaurant on East Colonial Drive temporarily closed on April 2nd, and after a couple of callbacks, they have not yet reopened. They have been issued a callback time extension.
Some of the high-priority violations include live flying insects in the kitchen and a vacuum breaker missing at the mop sink faucet.
DoubleTree Downtown Orlando Banquet — 2nd Floor
The second-floor banquet of DoubleTree Orlando (located on Ivanhoe Boulevard) was temporarily closed on March 27th with two violations.
One high-priority violation was rodent activity (as evidenced by rodent droppings found). The restaurant was reinspected later in the month and passed with no violations.
DoubleTree Downtown Orlando Restaurant
At the same hotel, the restaurant was closed also on March 27th.
The high-priority violations included raw animal food being stored near ready-to-eat food and rodent activity present in the kitchen. This restaurant was re-inspected on March 28th and met inspection standards.
We’ll keep an eye out for any more updates, so stay tuned to DFB for the latest Orlando food news!
