Disney has dropped some NEW DETAILS on Tiana’s Bayou Adventure!
Earlier this week, Disney presented the family of Leah Chase – the inspiration for the character of Tiana from The Princess and the Frog – with a trip to Walt Disney World, as well as the news that they will be among the first people to ride Tiana’s Bayou Adventure when it opens this summer. During the ceremony, some new information was revealed about the upcoming experience.
During the ceremony, Disney announced that one of Leah Chase’s daughters – Leah Chase Jr. – had recorded a version of the classic Louis Armstrong song “Do You Know What it Means to Miss New Orleans” that will be featured on a faux-radio station which plays through the attraction’s queue. Disney presented Chase with a framed photo of her recording session for the song, during which she’d worked with Grammy-winning composer and musician Terence Blanchard.
Chase Jr. said of the session, “You know what’s interesting about this? I haven’t been able to sing since that day… It was as if that day, the heavens opened up and allowed me to do whatever it is you said I did — because I haven’t heard it yet.”
The inclusion of the younger Leah Chase singing the song is part of an overall effort by Imagineers and Disney to work with the Chase family in ensuring that Tiana’s Bayou Adventure reflects New Orleans culture as authentically as possible. Chase and her sister Stella Chase Reese were heavily involved in this effort, with the latter even being named an “Honorary Imagineer” and gifted a hardhat and framed attraction poster in recognition.
Leah Chase Jr.’s rendition of “Do You Know What it Means to Miss New Orleans” will be heard during the queue for Tiana’s Bayou Adventure when the attraction opens this summer at Walt Disney World and later this year at Disneyland. Stay tuned to DFB for more details on the ride’s debut.

I started watching the Dooky Chase show on PBS when my ex-husband and I got back together this past 2 years. Love it and I am glad to see that someone with such a long and storied history in their community is being honored like this and that they were the inspiration for Tiana! Thank you, Disney!
