A longtime Tokyo Disney ride is closing… for something BRAND NEW.
Buzz Lightyear’s Astro Blasters – a variant of the attraction featured at numerous Disney Parks around the world – has been open at Tokyo Disneyland since 2004. However, after a 20-year run, the attraction is going to close permanently in October 2024 to make way for a new ride based on a different Disney property!
A new attraction based on the Disney film Wreck-It-Ralph will be opening in the former Buzz space in 2026.
According to the release, the attraction will allow guests to “enter the candy-themed racing game Sugar Rush, which is being attacked by Sugar Bugs – glitches created by King Candy. Guests team up with the beloved film characters Ralph and Vanellope to transform the Sugar Bugs back to their original “kawaii” confectionery such as cookies and cakes.”
Based on that description as well as the concept art, it seems likely that the new ride will be a reuse of the same Astro Blasters ride system, though likely with upgraded “blaster” technology to “transform” the Sugar Bugs.
This brand new Wreck-It-Ralph attraction will be the first of its kind and could provide a potential window into future re-themes that could come to other versions of the Buzz Lightyear rides around the world. Stay tuned to DFB for more updates on this upcoming attraction!

I’d like it to come to Walt DisneyWorld but don’t touch Buzz…use the vacant Stitch space they have done nothing with, wasting space.
John says
Which Disney fans were crying out for Wreck it Ralph???????
Kenh ag says
Wreck it who? You can’t tell me he is more known than Buzz…
Randi Briggs says
I don’t even know who Wreck It Ralph is

This ride and new souvenir shop sounds like it will be very interesting! That’s something new. We’ve never seen a King Candy animatronic or anything like that in existing Sugar Rush-related attractions.
You, guys, better not cancel this ride, just like the VR ride (planned a decade ago) one from Tomorrowland that was gonna replace the now shut down Stitch ride. Now, Stitch is getting replaced with a Tron ride instead. Quit with the negative comments that attempt to convince engineers and carpenters to change their minds!
Lois Pierce says
They won’t cancel the refurbishment. This is TOKYO Disneyland we’re talking about. Because it’s owned by the Oriental Land Co., they don’t seem to have the same budget constraints as the American parks. Everything seems to be bigger and better there. They avail themselves of the Imagineers (who probably love working for them, because their ideas don’t die on the vine) and then do their own thing. I can hardly wait to see what their new Space Mountain is like.
Stephen says
This is Tokyo where they do their own thing. OLC makes the decisions not Disney. But, it may come to US parks as a way to combat Universals Super Nutendo World.
