When are you heading to Disney World next?
Summer is right around the corner and we’re ready for all kinds of fun in the sun. If you usually fly to the Most Magical Place on Earth, it’s usually a good idea to plan your trip well in advance and watch the latest airline news. And, folks who usually fly on Southwest Airlines may want to pay attention as the company is ending operations at four airports.
Southwest Airlines recently released its first-quarter earnings for 2024 with the company reporting a $231 million net loss. Though they still had record operating revenue of $6.3 billion, but are making up for the overall losses by cutting routes — and entire flight operations out of four airports.
It was announced that Southwest will be ceasing operations at the following airports:
- Bellingham International Airport
- Cozumel International Airport
- Houston’s George Bush Intercontinental Airport
- Syracuse Hancock International Airport
According to the company, these airports were chosen for being in “underperforming markets,” and they noted in a statement that this decision was made to improve their “financial performance” overall. If you typically fly Southwest at any of these airports, you’ll need to find a different airline to use from now on.
However, Southwest also shared that they’re planning some upgrades that could make your next trip even better. They’re studying product preferences from customers, like onboard seating and cabin setups.
Southwest didn’t indicate when operations would end at these airports, but we’ll let you know if we hear any updates!
