When you are in the mood for some New Orleans vibes, there is no better place to go than Disney’s Port Orleans Resort — French Quarter. There are lots of fun decorations, and of course BEIGNETS!
However, before we all get too excited, we aren’t headed to get beignets. In fact, where we are going, they don’t even serve beignets. GASP!
That’s right, we are headed to Port Orleans Resort — French Quarter, and our mission is not beignets. Instead, we are checking out a different dining option: the pool bar. Port Orleans Resort — French Quarter pays tribute to New Orleans. The resort is full of Mardi Gras spirit every day of the year! We are headed over to the Mardi Gras-themed pool, Doubloon Lagoon, to see what eats and drinks this resort has to offer poolside.
Atmosphere
Mardi Grogs is a pool bar at Disney’s Port Orleans Resort – French Quarter. It is located near Doubloon Lagoon, the main pool at the resort. You can stop by for a quick drink or grab a table and stay for a bit.
There are a variety of seating options at Mardi Grogs. You can grab a seat at the bar or opt for one of the tables nearby. You will head up to the bar to place your order with the cast member.
We decided to make our way to one of the tables close by. There were lots of umbrellas out for the tables, and the chairs and benches all had cushions on them.
We loved that there was also a water station at Mardi Grogs, making it super simple to grab a cup of water. It was all set out so you could just fill up a cup and go. Now you don’t have to go all the way back to your room when you need to hydrate!
Mardi Grogs is decorated with lots of fun patterns and a great light blue color. There was plenty of seating for people while we were there. Many people opted to grab and go, too, so even with a steady trickle of people, there were plenty of seating options.
Now, let’s check out what is on the menu at Mardi Grogs.
Menu
Before we get to the food and drinks, let’s take a quick look at the Mardi Grogs menu! It is fairly small, but it has a lot of good options for a pool bar. You can choose from a variety of specialty drinks and non-alcoholic drinks. There is also a small menu of pool bites you can dine on.
Here is a closer look at the alcoholic drink options. There is a large variety of specialty drinks, and you can also get beer and wine. There are lots of classic tropical drinks like a Piña Colada, Mai Tai, Margarita, and Hurricane.
In addition to alcoholic drinks, you can also choose from a variety of non-alcoholic drinks and some pool bar bites. There is a variety of snacks offered here like a Roasted Turkey and Pimento Cheese Wrap and Charcuterie.
Those are the offerings at Mardi Grogs, so let’s take a look at what we ordered.
Drinks & Food
We got a variety of different items to try while hanging out by the pool! Here is a look at everything we got. Lookin’ yummy!
To drink we got the Frozen Irish Coffee, which is a frozen blend of Jameson Irish Whiskey, Tia Maria Liqueur, and freshly brewed Joffrey’s Coffee™. You can grab this drink for $17. This drink was super smooth and had lots of coffee flavor. It tastes pretty much exactly how you would expect: a frozen coffee slushy with a hint of Tia Maria Liqueur. You can definitely taste the Joffrey’s coffee, and we loved the addition of coffee grounds on top. The grounds added a great extra texture and also made this drink look fancier! It was very refreshing with lots of coffee flavor.
To eat, we started with the Hot Cajun Boiled Peanuts which cost $5.99. These came served in a paper cup, and we were also given a paper boat to make eating them easier.
These boiled peanuts were served hot. While they weren’t as spicy as we were expecting them to be, we did get a nice Cajun taste. The shell was easy to pull apart and the peanuts were very plump and tender. If you are looking for more of a Cajun kick, we recommend getting some of the spices from the shell when you eat the peanuts from the inside.
Next up, we got the Cajun Chicken Salad, which was spicy chicken with tomatoes, peppers, corn, pepper jack, and romaine with hot sauce-ranch dressing. The salad costs $11.99.
We got two different salads, and this was our favorite of the two. We appreciated that the lettuce was not as wet as it is usually in Disney World salads. We loved the combination of cheese, onions, corn, and the seasoning. It all worked really well together and made for a tasty salad.
The spice on the chicken was really the only Cajun aspect to this salad. Similar to the boiled peanuts, the Cajun spice on the chicken was noticeable with a low heat, but nothing crazy. We were definitely not seeking out the nearest glass of milk after finishing this salad.
Lastly, we tried the Mediterranean Curry-Chickpea Salad with Grilled Pita Bread and Tomato-Cucumber Salad. You can get this for $8.99. In this dish you get a side of chickpea-curry salad along with some pita bread, and tomato, cucumbers, and arugula.
The chickpea salad tasted good and had lots of bright flavors. The pita bread was fresh and soft, but not anything special. This dish was best eaten with a bit of everything on top of the pita. The addition of the cucumbers, tomato, and arugula to the chickpea salad really brought this dish up a notch. There was lots of fresh herb taste, and it is definitely a dish that you won’t feel weighed down after eating.
Overall
We were impressed with the selection of food and drinks for a pool bar. There were a variety of pool bites, and we loved that they were light and healthy, so we didn’t feel bogged down. The food was all tasty, but nothing incredibly special. If you are looking for a hearty meal while at Port Orleans, this would not be you best option. It is perfect for a drink and a light bite while you are enjoying the pool or walking around the resort. However, Port Orleans Resort — French Quarter has a lot of other tasty options including Scat Cat’s Club and Sassagoula Floatworks and Food Factory. We wish there was a bit more Cajun kick to the food options, but we still thought they tasted fresh and delicious!
