There are quite a few times when you’ll want to avoid Disney World if you’re averse to crowds!
There are some obvious answers, including major holidays like Christmas and Thanksgiving, as well as holiday weekends, Spring Break season, and the summer. But on top of that, Disney World can get busy with various rogue events, like runDisney races or cheerleading competitions. And now, we’ve got a warning about an upcoming weekend!
If you’re heading to Disney World May 2nd-5th, you can likely expect heavier crowds because those are the dates of the 2024 Summit cheer competition.
The competition is traditionally held at the ESPN Wide World of Sports complex, and during the dates when the teams are in town, the parks will be packed with teens and their families. Those attending the competition could purchase discounted tickets, so many take advantage of the value and use part of the trip as a vacation.
If you’re traveling to Disney World during those dates and haven’t already made your plans, we suggest you do so ASAP. You’ll want to lock down any hotel reservations, Disney Park Pass reservations (if necessary), and dining reservations. Purchasing Disney Genie+ on those days may also be a good idea to avoid longer waits in the parks.
Of course, we’ll be reporting on the crowds during those days and we’ll keep you updated if we spot anything unusual. We wish you the best of luck when navigating Disney World! Remember to be patient and set your expectations realistically.
