It’s official — the MAJOR changes at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Cabins are finally here.
The new cabins are being installed, which means we’re saying goodbye to the rustic, wooden cabins we’ve known for many years. But new things are happening! This whole change has been quite controversial, but we have to admit — there are some parts of these new cabins that we really love! Hear us out. There are some big improvements at the NEW Disney Vacation Club Cabins at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort.
Theming
While some Disney fans enjoyed that the previous cabins didn’t have a lot of Disney character-specific details in the decor, others like to be surrounded by Disney magic (even while they sleep!). If that’s you, you’ll love the new Disney touches inside the remodeled cabins! One of our favorites is the wooden artwork with Chip and Dale in the main bedroom.
You’ll also find a photo to the left of the bed highlighting aspects of the resort and Disney World history, like River Country!
And above the living room couch (which turns into a bed), there’s an adorable photo of Mickey and Pluto pulling into Fort Wilderness to camp.
When the bed gets pulled down, there’s another piece of artwork depicting Mickey and Pluto sleeping soundly after they’ve settled in.
Not to mention, these new cabins are also much brighter than the old ones, and there’s plenty of bright, natural light compared to the previous rooms. Below, you can see the OLD cabins.
While the darker lighting and dark wood matched the feel of being in a rustic cabin, the space felt a little cramped overall. The bright, light, NEW cabins feel more open! It’s amazing how a little extra light can make a space feel more open, right?
If you’re looking to be surrounded by some subtle Disney theming during your stay and you enjoy being able to SEE, you’ll love these new cabins!

Who Knew Moving a TV Could Make Such a Difference?
In the previous cabins, the TV in the main bedroom just sat on part of the furniture. There’s nothing wrong with this…except for the fact that it takes away from the space you could use for your own items. That counter is valuable real estate, and it was wasted with a TV in its place!
However, in the new cabins, the TV is built into the wall! That may not sound like a big difference, but just look for yourself. Look at all the wide-open counter space for phones, MagicBands, Minnie ears, and Disney pins!
Not only does it leave tons of counter space for your items, but the TV is raised enough that even the person on the top bunk can watch TV easily! We also really love how the TV is placed in the living room area as well, right next to the couch. This way, anyone sitting at the table or anyone sitting on the couch can easily watch.
The living room TV in the old cabins wasn’t in a terrible spot, but it just looked a little clunky.
Now, we don’t recommend staying inside and watching TV all day, but it does make for a great way to unwind after a long park day!
The Bathroom Situation
Listen, bathrooms are important, and we’re going to talk about them! In the new Fort Wilderness cabins, you’ll notice that there are TWO sinks — one outside the bathroom and one inside. These are separated by a door, so more than one person can get ready at the same time!
Not only that, there are multiple mirrors you can use to ensure you’re looking and feeling your best.
This is in comparison to the old rooms, which only had one sink inside the bathroom with one large mirror. Only one person could get ready at a time, and if someone was taking a shower and you had to use the bathroom…awkward.
This made the old Fort Wilderness Cabin bathrooms similar to the bathrooms at value resorts like Disney’s Pop Century Hotel. At a Pop Century hotel room, for example, there is only one sink outside the bathroom, which can make sharing a little tricky when everyone is trying to get ready at the same time. Since you’re paying a little more for a Fort Wilderness Cabin than a room at a Value resort, so we’re glad that this new design allows for some more practicality.Â
We know these new cabins may not be for everyone, but we think there are definitely some upgrades that these new designs offer. You’ll want to weigh the pros and cons with your family and friends and see if it’s a good fit. As a reminder, these new cabins sleep up to six adults and feature one bedroom, one bathroom, a living room, a full kitchen, and a private patio. Some cabins are also dog-friendly. The remodeled cabins are set to open on July 1st, 2024.

I love the cabins, but 100% would get more use out of washer/dryer in that 2nd vanity space. That would have been a much better addition, especially in a DVC accommodation (like every other DVC 1 BR). I think they missed an opportunity.

Finally a refurb that has theming and not just an antiseptic hospital room with a Disney picture on the wall! Let’s hope this is a trend back in the right direction!

Is it just me, or does the outside look of the updated cabins not match the inside? I love the inside – it’s updated but still looks like a rustic cabin in the woods. The outside looks too contemporary for the location. Not that it would keep me from staying there, it’s just a little disappointing. Again, just my opinion.
