You can plan and plan the perfect Disney World vacation — but Mother Nature doesn’t usually care about your plans.
Nothing can ruin your Disney World vacation faster than a torrential downpour and severe weather. That’s exactly the case for Disney World today. In fact, the entire Central Florida area is currently under a tornado watch — including the Disney World area.
A tornado watch has been issued for all of Central Florida — including the counties where Disney World is located. WKMG reports the watch is currently in effect until 11AM ET today. You can continue to monitor the area by clicking here.
Eric Burris, meteorologist with WESH news shared a look at a line of storms with intense lightning in the area. Typically, tornado watches aren’t of much concern — unless it escalates to a tornado warning. Make sure you’re checking the weather regularly so that you know if that happens.

Burris reported that nothing too severe had impacted the area for now, but scattered thunderstorms are still expected to impact much of the area, including Disney World. Potential hail and heavy winds are also expected.

If you’re heading to Disney World today, you might want to keep an eye on the radar and check your favorite weather app to get the most up-to-date information. You should also make sure you listen to any Cast Members during severe storms as they’re trained to keep you safe!
It’s unlikely that Disney will close the parks for today’s weather, but there will be multiple ride closures if lightning, heavy rain, and strong winds affect the area.
According to News 6, the Orlando area will encounter scattered storms and high temperatures in the next few days thanks to a stationary front, so we could see showers and storms continue through the week.
Rain is possible every day through Sunday, May 19th, with rainfall possibility being as high as 60% on Wednesday. Monday and Tuesday each have a 50% rainfall chance and Friday through Sunday each have a 40% chance. Thursday has the lowest rain chance with 30%.
