Some Disney World snacks have a cult following (it’s us — we’re part of the cult following.)
But, nary a night goes by when Cheeseburger Pods from Satu’li Canteen at Disney’s Animal Kingdom aren’t at the forefront of our dreams. So, when we found out that there was a potential cheeseburger pod dupe at our local grocery store — it was like our dreams had finally come true.
Let us introduce you to Wow Bao frozen Cheeseburger bao buns. These bad boys are steamed buns filled with ground beef, caramelized onions, cheddar cheese, and secret sauce — sounds an awful lot like the Cheeseburger Pods we love from Satu’li Canteen at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. So, of course, we had to try them!
Each package comes with four frozen bao buns and you can either microwave them or use a steamer basket on the stovetop according to package directions. We opted for the microwave this time around.
At first glance, things were looking pretty promising. They came out steamy, fluffy, and warm — and they sure smelled good!
And, y’all — they WERE good! When we cut it in half, we could hardly tell the difference, though it did look like there was less filling in the Wow Bao version than what we’re used to at Satu’li. They were savory, and cheesy, and reminded us of a McDonald’s cheeseburger in the best way. The bao bun itself was fluffy but we did find it to get a bit chewy the longer the buns sat. Overall, though, these are a great option if you can’t make it to Animal Kingdom!
We’ve found Wow Bao Cheeseburger buns in the frozen section at both Walmart and The Fresh Market, so keep an eye out the next time you’re at the grocery store!
