Disney World hotel pools are the highlight of some people’s vacations — especially younger kids!
Who doesn’t want to spend some time at the epic Big Blue Pool at Disney’s Art of Animation or have the time of their life at Stormalong Bay at Disney’s Yacht and Beach Club Resorts? However, Disney World sometimes brings us face to face with some situations we’d rather not be in. When you’re at the pool, PLEASE make sure you’re not doing any of these things.
Taking Up TOO Much Space
We don’t mean going with a large group, we mean taking up FOUR chairs when you really only need two.
This is especially true when the pool is already crowded and it’s hard to find a seat (which is most summer days). We urge you to attempt to condense your stuff as much as you can and take up as few chairs as possible. We know, it’s awkward to have strangers next to you, but it’s Disney World and it’s going to happen everywhere — please don’t act like the chairs next to you are taken just to ensure someone doesn’t sit next to you.
When You’re Sick
Please, we are BEGGING YOU, do NOT go to a Disney World pool when you’re sick! Really, you shouldn’t be going ANYWHERE in Disney World when you’re sick.
We recently got a comment from a reader who shared they think they got norovirus (aka a stomach bug) from a Disney World pool. Many germs, like norovirus, can contaminate the water it comes in contact with, which could be the ENTIRE pool. If someone happens to ingest any of the water, it’s game over. Now, this isn’t to scare you from going in any Disney World pool, as chlorine does inactivate most noroviruses (but not immediately, and it can live on the surfaces around the pool too), but just be aware of this situation and know that if you’re not feeling well, DO NOT go to the pool!
Not Using Swim Diapers
If you have a little one who’s still in diapers, it’s wonderful that you want them to have fun at the pool! However, they NEED swim diapers.
Regular diapers will become soggy messes in the water, which is uncomfortable for your baby and for everyone around you. Swim diapers are specifically designed to be submerged in water. They are also only made to contain solids, not liquids. However, regular diapers won’t contain ANYTHING once they’re soaking wet, so please, for everyone, just use swim diapers.
Not Paying Attention to Those Around You
This is mostly for the kids (or the parents of kids), but splashing around heavily and not paying attention to the people around you can be a serious issue.
Not everyone wants to “play” in the pool. While adults shouldn’t at all be surprised by kids playing in the main hotel pool (there are quiet pools spread around most hotels as well), it’s also not fair to assume all adults are okay being splashed constantly by a group playing across the pool from them. It’s a healthy medium — if you’re an adult who gets annoyed easily by these things, head to one of the quieter pools, and if you know your kids are in the pool, keep an eye on them and make sure they’re not disturbing other guests.

Last September, my husband and I found 2 chaises together, put our towels on them, I had my rash guard on mine along with our bag. I went to get a drink at the bar and my husband was taking a dip, came back and some dude was sitting on my chaise, right on top of my rash guard and towel. Then he acted weird when I walked up and said, “excuse me…you’re sitting on my cover-up.”

I wanna also add that lifeguards on duty are not babysitters. They’re there to keep an eye on everyone. They’re not there to babysit your children.
