Tiana’s Bayou Adventure will officially open to Magic Kingdom visitors on June 28th!
Disney has been dropping a ton of details about what we can expect on the opening day, and we’re getting closer to Cast Member, Annual Passholder, D23 Members, and Disney Vacation Club Member previews, too. We’ve been keeping up with the latest construction updates, but Disney has just shared some new details about the ride queue!
Now that we have an opening date for the ride, along with dates for early previews, we just can’t contain our excitement — and apparently, neither can Disney! We just got a new look at some exciting details about the queue at Tiana’s Bayou Adventure!
Disney shared that we’ll find a bit more backstory in the queue for this new ride! They took inspiration from Tiana’s father James in The Princess and the Frog, who was a veteran of World War I. Imagineering built upon his story inside the attraction with the help of storytellers from Disney Animation.
Ted Robledo, executive creative director for Walt Disney Imagineering, shared that what makes Tiana so unique is how relatable her story is — her mother was a dressmaker, and her father was a decorated veteran.
“We looked for inspiration for how we could best expand on his backstory in a way that honored the military families who visit our parks,” Ted continued. “In creating these photos for the attraction, we were inspired by real photos of soldiers who served during WWI to ensure we got it right.”
Disney used reference photos for James’ expanded story — those of soldiers who served in the 369th Regiment, which was one of the first African American regiments to serve with the American Expeditionary Forces during World War I. Many members of this unit were awarded the prestigious Croix de Guerre medal by the French government for their valiant service in action and were well known for their bravery.
Project lead Charita Carter, who is also the executive creative producer for Walt Disney Imagineering, said that being able to honor military heroes inside Tiana’s Bayou Adventure is significant for her as the daughter of a career United States Air Force officer.
“Growing up in a military family is a wonderful and challenging experience that we hoped to pay tribute to inside our newest attraction, even if in a small way,” said Charita.
“In this expanded story, you will see just how much Tiana is proud of her father and his military service. Just like so many of the families who visit us are proud of their military hero. I know I am very proud of my family’s military service, including my father and sister.”
