If you’re eating a snack while reading this, you might want to put it down for just a second.
One of Disney World’s Good Neighbor hotels had some restaurant issues recently, and it’s definitely not the kind of thing you want to think about while you’re eating. A restaurant at the hotel had to shut down entirely due to ROACHES present in the kitchen!
Disney World has several Disney-owned hotels on property, but there are lots of “Good Neighbor” hotels nearby that are owned by other companies (like Hilton, Mariott, Holiday Inn, etc.). Those hotels have many of the same perks as Disney-owned ones, like transportation to and from the parks and (for some of them) access to Early Theme Park Entry.
One of these hotels is the Embassy Suites Resort at Lake Buena Vista (located at 8100 Lake St.). It’s just a 20-minute drive from Magic Kingdom and 10 minutes from Disney Springs, but some recent news might have you rethinking your upcoming stay: A restaurant at this location was shut down on May 16th due to a failed health inspection (Orlando Sentinel). The high-priority violation that caused the shutdown was “Roach activity present as evidenced by live roaches found.”
According to the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation, there were three live roaches on the floor near the cook line and two live roaches on the floor behind the oven.
Other violations included a gallon of milk not date marked in the cooler (which was corrected on-site), a cutting board with discoloration and stains (violation of food-contact surface rules), and food spilled on the floor near the cook line.
When the violation was found on May 16th, the restaurant was shut down. However, another inspection was conducted on the same day and the restaurant met inspection standards and reopened.
There are four restaurants at this Embassy Suites Resort location: a Starbucks coffee shop, the Gazebo Restaurant & Bar, the Pizza & Ice Cream Shoppe, and a Pool Bar. The inspection notes do not identify which restaurant had the violation and shut down.
Most of Disney World’s Good Neighbor hotels do not have roaches and are actually a great budget-friendly option if you’re looking for a hotel near the parks. Just be sure to ask the hotel about which Disney perks they offer before you book your stay so you know whether it’s a good deal or not!
