NEWS! Haunted Mansion Ride Updates CONFIRMED in Disney World!

After a long and notable absence, a missing Magic Kingdom ride feature has FINALLY returned!

Welcome, foolish mortals!

Not long after the installation of the Hatbox Ghost in the Haunted Mansion attraction at Magic Kingdom, we noticed that the floating candelabra in the Endless Hallway scene was MISSING. Just last month, we were beginning to worry that change was permanent. Fortunately, we can gladly report that is NOT the case!

Recently, we rode the Haunted Mansion and noticed the floating candelabra is BACK in the Endless Hallway!

The Floating Candelabra is BACK

The floating candelabra is an optical illusion in the Haunted Mansion attractions at Magic Kingdom, Tokyo Disneyland, and Disneyland Park, as well as in Phantom Manor in Disneyland Paris.

In the Haunted Mansion, the candelabra is carried by a ghost and seems like it is floating. This effect is created through mirrors and forced perspective. The mirrors give off the impression of an endless hallway while the candelabra is connected to a mirror and motor to create that floating effect.

Missing candelabra earlier this year

We initially speculated that the candelabra was removed to not distract from the Hatbox Ghost scene, which was installed in the Florida version of Haunted Mansion back in late November 2023. However, its return could mean that the illusion simply wasn’t working right, needed a tuneup, or was removed for maintenance purposes. Either way, it’s reassuring to see the Haunted Mansion finally feel whole again!

Fortunately, it appears that maintenance for Disney World’s Haunted Mansion is done…at least for now. Over in Disneyland Park, that version of the Haunted Mansion is closed for a lengthy refurbishment. The refurbishment does not have a completion date yet, but it will see the attraction’s queue get a makeover in addition to a brand-new Madame Leota-themed gift shop.

There has been speculation that the actual ride could see a few changes as well, but nothing has been confirmed. As of right now, there has been no indication that these changes will translate over to Magic Kingdom’s Haunted Mansion — at least in the near future.
