When a ride gets an upgrade in Disney World, that’s all anyone can talk about.
Disney fans start speculating on what the upgrade will be, how much of the ride will change, andtheir HUGE expectations for the new version of the ride. Right now, we’re seeing it with the Country Bear Jamboree update that will bring a new show (and new outfits) to the classic Disney attraction. Now that we know Test Track will soon be closing for its own update, fans have some SERIOUS concerns and opinions.
So some of the concerns we’ve seen Disney fans sharing is that EPCOT doesn’t exactly have a great record with promised ride updates. This is a concern we TOTALLY get. Previously, EPCOT has made promises that were not kept. For example, we were promised an update to Spaceship Earth — and that never happened.
EPCOT also promised some other attractions with its massive transformation that never saw the light of day. For example, we were supposed to get a Mary Poppins-based attraction, as well as cool immersive and interactive experience with the PLAY! Pavilion. Neither of those attractions ever got off the ground.
So we get that people are worried the Test Track update won’t happen. But here’s the thing, we’re going to put those fears to rest now. Disney World has already announced a closing date for Test Track and construction permits have been filed for the ride. So it really is happening — we just don’t have too many details yet!
Now, we know there might be concerns that the update will not be an actual retheme, as Disney has promised, and we won’t know more for sure until the ride reopens. Well, Disney has released concept art of the new ride and has confirmed that the update will take inspiration from World of Motion, the first ride that was originally in that space. We can sort of see this in the concept art of the new ride vehicles.
This concept art, though, is about all we know about the future version of Test Track, but there do seem to be some notable changes, at least to the ride’s concept and ride vehicles. The ride’s sponsor, Chevrolet, has also not changed, as Disney has said that it has a great long-term relationship with the company.
Of course, we won’t know for sure what the new version of Test Track will be like until Disney starts revealing more details and we have a chance to ride it. At the moment, though, we don’t have a reopening date for the attraction, but you can bet we’ll be keeping an eye out for updates — and we’ll share them with you as we find them.

I’d be happy with just going back to World of Motion. Test Track never was as good from day one and was all about the high-speed pass outside while the other 98% of the ride was lacking. World of Motion was solid start to finish.

Will the GM employee lounge also be closed during the refurbishment?
