We’ve got questions about BOTH of Hollywood Studios’ nighttime projection shows.
In recent years, there have been two nighttime projection shows presented at Hollywood Studios — Disney Movie Magic and Wonderful World of Animation. However, right now we’re slightly confused about what’s going on with both of them!
First up, there’s Wonderful World of Animation. The nighttime show is described by Disney as featuring “spectacular sequences celebrating themes like magic, family, adventure, romance, and friendship. Each theme is brought to life through unforgettable moments from beloved films—like Sleeping Beauty, The Incredibles, Coco, and many more” projected onto the Chinese Theater facade. But, currently, it has no shows scheduled through June 6th.
While there’s no official reason for this, it seems like the obvious answer is that the massive stage currently erected in front of the Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway facade (for a private event being held at the park, which will include a performance from Maroon 5 on said stage) would make the show impossible.
Fear not, if you want to see the show however, as Disney’s calendar indicates Wonderful World of Animation is returning on June 7th, so we’re not worried about its long-term future in the least.
The same can’t be said for Disney Movie Magic, which usually runs before Wonderful World of Animation. The projection show has been running in some form or fashion since 2017 and features scenes from live-action Disney films projected across the theater’s facade.
While the show has been suspended in the summer months in previous years due to later sunset times, this time the show has been COMPLETELY scrubbed from Disney’s website and the My Disney Experience app. When you click on the show on Disney World’s website, you get Stitch saying “Someone ate the page!” (We’re not pointing fingers though.)
If you’ll be at Hollywood Studios over the next few days and want an entertainment option, the park’s other nighttime entertainment offering, Fantastic!, is running as normal. It is located at the Hollywood Hills amphitheater in the Sunset Boulevard section of the park near the Tower of Terror.
We’re not sure what’s officially going on with either of these Hollywood Studios shows, but we’ll be keeping our eyes and ears out for any news and updates, especially for Disney Movie Magic. Stay tuned to DFB for further Hollywood Studios updates.
