Y’ALL, we are almost there! Tiana’s Bayou Adventure opens soon in Magic Kingdom!
The Princess and the Frog-themed water ride is set to open to everyone on June 28th, 2024 after sets of previews for exclusive groups of Disney fans. Since construction started in early 2023, we’ve been anxiously waiting for the day we got to experience the attraction, and it was supposed to be today, June 3rd, but something happened that we gotta talk about.
As many of you know, Tiana’s Bayou Adventure is the re-theming of Splash Mountain, the classic ride that Disney removed due to cultural insensitivities in the movie the ride was themed after. The new ride is the exact same ride system that was used for Splash Mountain; the only changes are the theme and story that you will now see on the ride.
Previews for the ride are scheduled for several days before the grand opening of the ride on June 28th. One of those days was today, June 3rd, which is the day that we were scheduled to ride the attraction for the very first time! To say we were excited would be an understatement.
However, when we got there and were ready to get in line, we were notified that the ride was currently down and that we could not get in line. We then noticed that an evacuation of the ride was taking place on the outside of the mountain.
We waited for hours afterward to hopefully be allowed into line and eventually on the ride, but our opportunity never came as the ride did not reopen in time. By 3PM, we were told that the ride previews were canceled due to the ride closure. Now, this was not the first day of previews and it was not the first time the ride was closed during them. Previews were also taking place on June 2nd, but the ride shut down then, too, preventing rides.
It is concerning to see the ride having so many technical difficulties, however, we do understand that these are only the previews, which are when Disney can find all the kinks and issues in the ride and work to smooth them out before it officially opens to the public. There is certainly still hope that the ride will be working properly by the time June 28th rolls around.
Tiana’s Bayou Adventure picks up after the story of The Princess and the Frog. The story of the attraction, as Disney shares, picks up during New Orleans’ Carnival season, and Tiana is hosting a Mardi Gras Party for the people of New Orleans — the community that has supported her successful restaurant. (The storyline is set about a year after the movie.) But Tiana realizes that the party is “missing a key ingredient” and she needs help finding it… And YOU will join Tiana, too, as Disney Imagineers have shared that guests will be active participants coming along with Tiana on this adventure!
Planning to ride when Tiana’s Bayou Adventure opens at Disney World. There are two ways to do so. You can either purchase Genie+ and make a Lightning Lane reservation for the attraction, or you can join the Virtual Queue at 7AM or 1PM. The Virtual Queue can be TRICKY, especially for brand new rides – learn all about it here.

Don’t tell me they only did “window dressing” for the new ride and didn’t work on the mechanics. Frustrating! and dumb/cheap. Once again, TOKYO GETS EVERYTHING!

The spirit of the Brer critters from Splash Mountain have probably cursed the attraction and aren’t leaving quietly, but then again it frequently broke down before too.

I understand times change, but history is history and I have ridden Splash Mountain many times and never equated it to any racial, ethnics or bigotry connotations/issues. Yes it took place in the south but allot of things have taken place. People have become to sensitive, just because they want their 15 minutes of fame. I also disagree with Uncle Ben’s rice, Aunt Jemima syrup, as well as other products, statues, buildings have been renamed to wipe out history.

Hmmmm, we were scheduled for the preview ride on June 3rd and got in line at 11:30am. The line didn’t move for about 20 minutes, but finally started up and about an hour later we were in our “log” enjoying the bayou and all its characters and the ride was flawless. When we were done they were still loading people on with seemingly no issues. What time was this complete closure???
