We spotted a new permit for work near one of Magic Kingdom‘s most iconic rides!
Things around Disney World are constantly changing. That’s why we like to keep an eye out for any permits that are filed that indicate that something new or updated could be in the works!
We recently noticed that a new permit was filed for the address 4873 Caribbean Wy #B. This address lines up with the Caribbean Plaza area in Magic Kingdom, which is located right next to the Pirates of the Caribbean attraction.
The permit was filed on May 31st for general construction at this address. The contractor named on the permit is Whiting-Turner, who has worked with Disney Imagineering in the past (however this particular permit is not for Imagineering).
General construction permits can mean anything from minor changes to big updates, so it’s tough to say what exactly is in store with this particular project. But we did find the expiration date on this permit interesting — the specified expiration date was 8/31/2025, which is farther out than the typical 1-year expiration dates on many permits. This could indicate more extensive work related to the permit, or it could mean that the company doesn’t intend to start the work until further into the year.
That’s not the only update we recently spotted from this area of the park. We also noticed just this week that Tortuga Tavern, a quick service restaurant near Pirates of the Caribbean was closed. When we went to check out the closure, a Cast Member told us this was a seasonal closure, although that did seem odd to us since we would expect seasonal locations to be open during the busy summer months.
The address listed on the permit actually lines up with the gift shop area next to Pirates of the Caribbean, NOT Tortuga Tavern (or the attraction itself), so this particular permit doesn’t appear to be related to the Tortuga Tavern closure.
With all of these changes in the area, we’re wondering if this has anything to do with the MASSIVE expansion coming to Magic Kingdom, which includes a new bar inspired by the Pirates of the Caribbean. According to Disney, “This first-of-its-kind experience will extend the story of Pirates of the Caribbean.”
Disney hasn’t revealed the exact location of the new bar yet, but it’s interesting that several potential clues have popped up within days of each other! We’ll continue to keep a close eye on this area of the park for any more updates or clues, so stay tuned to DFB for the latest on all the exciting developments coming to Magic Kingdom!
