A lot of changes are happening in the Disney World parks currently.
The Country Bear Jamboree is being refurbished in Magic Kingdom, Tiana’s Bayou Adventure is getting ready to make its grand opening this summer, and Test Track will be closing this year to undergo a massive transformation. But that’s not all — over in Disney’s Hollywood Studios, a live show is finally returning in a NEW way, and now we have more details!
Disney announced back in late 2023 that a new Little Mermaid show would finally be coming to replace Voyage of The Little Mermaid, which has been closed ever since the 2020 park closures. The new show is called “The Little Mermaid — A Musical Adventure” and casting began for it back in February.
Now, we’ve FINALLY gotten some new details on this updated under-the-sea-extravaganza! During a media event in June of 2024, Sarah Schmidt and James Stilson of Disney’s Live Entertainment division revealed a slew of information about “The Little Mermaid — A Musical Adventure.”

The new version of the show will feature a combination of live actors, puppets, digital animation, and even some live motion capture seamlessly integrated together to fully replicate the underwater setting.
Some characters will be a mix of all these styles. For example, there will be a practical puppet Ursula as well as a “larger than life” digital version for the climactic battle finale.

From a story standpoint, the show has been re-told to be almost entirely from Ariel’s point of view, right down to the set and stage which is “inspired by the way a teenager would decorate their walls.” To further this theme, the show will also feature two Ariel-centric songs that weren’t present in the original version — “Daughters of Triton” and “Kiss the Girl.”
According to Schmidt, “We’re totally focused on telling the story through Ariel’s point of view.”
No official opening date for the show was confirmed, with Disney simply saying it was still scheduled for “later this year.”

Seems like we still get a good dose of the original storyline of the original movie with a villain unlike what is happening at Tiana’s Adventure retheme “after the kiss”. Imagine if this was rethemed after the kiss with Ariel having legs the entire time.

About time they do something. I loved this show when I first saw it. Wildly creative and unique for the guest. Will be looking forward to it. Just do not know why Disney took so long to re-imagine it. It was great the way that it was. The worst thing about the whole experience was the waiting in line.

they need to stop already using the word adventure in the title for everything….talk about lazy and boring and redundant.

I can’t say I’m excited as much as I am curious. Thus far, I’ve been more disappointed with all the changes that has taken place over the last several years. I loved taking my daughter to this show. My daughter loved when the bubbles were released and filled the theater. For her, it was magical! I guess we’ll see!

I felt that they were taking a long time over this because Disney was trying to judge which Ariel would be more popular , the animation or the real life.

I’m excited for this change because the little mermaid show that was there was just down right terrible IMO! And the long wait did not help. So I cannot wait to see this new version
