Okay, so who is afraid to watch any new TV shows at all for fear they’ll get canceled quickly?
It happens ALL the time, and it makes it really hard to commit to a show without knowing its final fate. For example, Disney+ canceled The Muppets Mayhem recently (and we’re still sad about it). ABC recently announced that season 7 would be the last for The Good Doctor. American Born Chinese and The Secrets of Sulphur Springs, two original Disney+ shows, also got canceled. Now, Amazon has just announced the end of a POPULAR show.
Amazon’s hit dark superhero series, The Boys, will end with season 5. The Boys showrunner Eric Kripke, took to X, to make the official announcement. He confirmed the show’s ending just ahead of its season 4 premiere on June 13th.
#TheBoys Season 4 Premiere Week is a good time to announce: Season 5 will be the Final Season! Always my plan, I just had to be cagey till I got the final OK from Vought. Thrilled to bring the story to a gory, epic, moist climax. Watch Season 4 in 2 DAYS, cause the end has begun! pic.twitter.com/3p7Wt4jGA6

The Boys is a satirical take on the superhero trope, casting the superheroes as the true (mostly) bad guys and a group of vigilantes known as “The Boys” as an organization trying to take the superheroes down who have wronged them. The Emmy-winning R-rated series is critically-acclaimed, with its previous three seasons holding over 85% on Rotten Tomatoes. Season 4 has already earned an 83% on Rotten Tomatoes ahead of its premiere.
The show stars Karl Urban, Jack Quaid, Antony Starr, Erin Moriarty, Jessie T. Usher, Laz Alonso, Chace Crawford, Tomer Capone, Karen Fukuhara, Colby Minifie, Claudia Doumit and Cameron Crovett. Season 4 will also include Jeffrey Dean Morgan, the second Supernatural star to have a recurring role on the series after Jensen Ackles (Kripke was also the showrunner for that show).
According to Variety, Kripke had previously mentioned wanting five seasons to tell the story adapted from a comic book series by Garth Ennis. This could mean that the season finale was filmed with the end of the overall story in mind, which should hopefully mean it won’t end on a cliffhanger.
However, spin-off series Gen-V is currently under production for its second season. Two other spin-off shows are also in the works.
