It’s safe to say that Disney’s new Inside Out 2 movie was a BIG hit. Like, a really, really big hit.
Inside Out 2 premiered on June 14th, and we were among the THOUSANDS of Disney fans who filled up our popcorn buckets and kicked up our feet as we enjoyed the new movie. (Shoutout to Disney for making sure our kids all have the emotional vocabulary none of us had when we were their age. LOL.)
Now that we’ve seen this film in theaters, we’re ready for round two — couch edition! Yes, we’re already thinking about when we’ll get to watch it again on Disney+ in the comfort of our homes and fuzzy slippers. Let’s talk about it!
UPDATE: Inside Out 2 will release on Disney+ on September 25th, 2024!
When we said that Inside Out 2 was popular, we meant it. This film quickly became one of the highest-grossing animated films EVER! In fact, Inside Out 2 surpassed Frozen 2, making over $1.5 billion worldwide, according to Box Office Mojo. So, when (and how) can you watch this movie from home?
Good news! Inside Out 2 is currently available on digital streaming services like Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV+, and Fandango At Home. You can purchase the movie for $29.99 (so you essentially own a digital copy of the film) or rent it for $24.99 (for a 48-hour period). The digital and home video releases have bonus features, including a documentary on how Pixar created the new emotions in the movie: Anxiety (Maya Hawke), Envy (Ayo Edebiri), Ennui (Adèle Exarchopoulos), and Embarrassment (Paul Walter Hauser). Oh, and both the digital and home video releases also include a feature on how a scene called “The Vault” came together, a three-minute alternate opening, and four deleted scenes.
If you’re interested in purchasing a physical copy, you can pre-order Inside Out 2 on 4K Ultra HD Blu-Ray, Blu-Ray, or DVD now. The DVD copies will be released on September 10th.
That said, if you have a Disney+ subscription, you might want to hold off on purchasing a digital copy of the film. While we still don’t have a Disney+ release date, there are some clues about when it could arrive. So what’s this big hint? When will Inside Out 2 be heading to Disney+? Well, thank you for asking! It’s time to put on our sleuthing hats. Let’s figure it all out together!
Let’s start by saying that we are purely into speculation land now, as nothing has been confirmed by Disney as of yet. We’re just doing some friendly research together with you. So, on to the hint. First off, Disney’s last theatrical release, Wish, came out in theaters on November 22nd, 2023. Then, 133 days later, on April 3rd, 2024, it finally made its debut on Disney+.
With that tidbit of information, let’s do the math to find out when we could (in theory) expect to see Inside Out 2 on Disney+. So, the movie premieres on June 14th, 2024, then we add 133 days to that (carry the 2) and we get October 25th, 2024 as our potential Disney+ release date! (We did it!)
That, combined with the fact that Inside Out 2 director Pete Docter told Time that the movie would have a 100-day theatrical window, makes us pretty confident the movie will hit Disney+ later this fall. We’re crossing our fingers!
Again, this isn’t confirmed by Disney. It’s just our best guess on when we’ll be able to watch it based on previous releases. In the meantime, if you want to get yourself ready for the movie, check out the final trailer below!
