Planning a trip to Disney World can get pretty complicated as is, but is it possible it will get even trickier in the future?
When it comes to how many days you should spend at Disney World, we have our thoughts. Although there is technically no right answer (it always depends on you and your family), the question of how long your stay should be at The Most Magical Place on Earth to minimize regrets and maximize fun is starting to get harder to answer.
When evaluating how much time you’ll need to spend at Disney World, there is a HUGE looming reason why you might need to extend your trip. Additionally, several other factors have come into play that might require you to spend more time at Disney World than you’re used to. Let’s jump in and look at these reasons!
Disney World adds a 5th Park
The most obvious, and biggest, reason you’d have to extend a Disney World trip is the addition of a fifth theme park.
When opening Disneyland, Walt Disney insisted that his first theme park would never truly be complete. That sentiment has carried over to Disney World and some massive change could be on the horizon. Experts have floated around the idea that Disney World could ultimately wind up building a fifth theme park in the future, and that’s certainly something that would take more time to experience when adding it to Disney World’s already-busy itinerary offerings.
After settling a lawsuit and agreeing to a new $17 billion investment deal with the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District, Disney World has positioned itself nicely for massive expansion in Florida. A new gate could be filled to the brim with amazing new attractions and experiences that would surely take time to fully take in, ultimately extending your vacation (as long as you intend on experiencing Disney World’s four other parks as well).
We’re already seeing this with Universal Orlando’s Epic Universe. As Universal gets ready to open its third theme park in Florida, we’ve already seen interest and demand rise, alluding to the idea that Universal will require longer stays from its guests — and they seem happy to oblige. If Disney World also opens a new theme park, it’s fair to assume that guests will opt to stay longer there, as well.
Expansions at Magic Kingdom and Disney’s Animal Kingdom
Staying on the theme of expansion, the confirmed expansions at both Magic Kingdom and Disney’s Animal Kingdom are sure to drive Disney World interest up.
Magic Kingdom plans to expand beyond Big Thunder Mountain Railroad and blue sky ideas have included lands centered around Coco, Encanto, or Disney Villains. There are several possibilities and all would create more things to do, likely resulting in longer stays.
With the upcoming expansion at Animal Kingdom on the horizon, we’re already expecting larger crowds, longer waits, and more time that will be needed to experience a park that many consider to be a half-day park. At the end of the day, it is reinvigorated interest that will affect how you spend your time at these newly expanded parks — resulting in an even tighter regiment of how you allocate your time.
Hurricane season has been arriving earlier and stronger
Let’s face it — hurricane season at Disney World isn’t exactly limited. Arriving from June through November, it feels like it takes up most of the year and unfortunately appears to be arriving earlier and earlier.
Experts are already predicting 20 to 25 named storms this hurricane season, with between eight and 12 of those strengthening into hurricanes. On average, the season only features 14 named storms. Rain and storms can obviously affect your trip and cause closures, so it might be wise to add extra days just to afford yourself more time to experience things that might be temporarily closed or unavailable during stormy days.
Water Park access for hotel guests
Beginning in 2025, guests staying at Disney World hotels will be allowed to visit either Blizzard Beach Water Park or Typhoon Lagoon Water Park on their check-in day FOR FREE. While this perk seems amazing, it does come with a catch.
We assume many will pass up on this available promo, perhaps because they arrived later in the day, had a long flight, and/or just want to settle into their hotel. HOWEVER, those who do show up early and ready to go in the past would’ve headed straight to the Disney Parks. Instead, they’ll likely visit the water parks, causing the need to use a different day to visit the theme parks.
We figure that Disney is planning on this phenomenon causing people to spend an extra day at Disney World, which in turn becomes more money spent on lodging, dining, souvenirs, etc. — more than making up the losses they suffer by giving away free water park tickets. But hey, as long as everyone is happy, that’s all that matters.
All of these reasons are purely speculative and, at the end of the day, YOU have the final say of how long your trip should be. Regardless of what you decide, we’ll be here to help you every step of the way so continue to follow us for the latest Disney World news, tips, reviews, and more!

Not sure how I feel about current Disney management building a new park. The four parks they have now are beginning to look run down, maintenance issues abound, and the new look at epcot is not impressive
