A “new” park requires a new map.
Maps have LONG been an integral part of the Disney theme park experience. Some of the initial concept art for the original “Mickey Mouse Park” that would eventually turn into Disneyland was done in a map format. A decade later, when Walt and Roy Disney were trying to secure investors, Walt had Imagineer and artist Herb Ryman design several pieces of concept art — including a map — to pitch the project. From the moment Disneyland opened two years later, physical maps were both a cherished souvenir and an important part of a guest’s day. That still holds true today as we’re sure you often consult physical and app-based maps when maneuvering around Disney’s theme parks, which is why an updated map is always a big deal.
The latest new map at Disney World was just released at EPCOT, and we’ve got a first look for you!
With the recent opening of CommuniCore Hall, EPCOT just completed a years-long renovation project that — for better or for worse — completely remade the front of the park in addition to adding major attractions like Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure and Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind.
The park just debuted a new guide map, including a cover that depicts a somewhat generic scene of a family watching the park’s latest nighttime spectacular show, Luminous The Symphony of Us. But the new cover is just one change on this updated map!
Within the map, there’s a full spread dedicated to the “Magic of Possibility” associated with the park. Highlighted attractions include The Seas With Nemo and Friends and the Duck Tales World Showcase game. Interestingly, of all the new additions to the park over the last several years, Journey of Water Inspired by Moana is prominently featured. There’s also a breakdown of how to use the My Disney Experience app.
The map also features the traditional information on Guest Services and transportation…
… as well as the park’s rules.
When opened in full, the new EPCOT map features everything in the park, including the recent major ride additions as well as Dreamer’s Point and CommuniCore Hall. This is the first physical EPCOT map to show CommuniCore Hall open.
The debut of EPCOT’s new map is a further sign that the park’s long-running construction has finally come to an end. Stay tuned to DFB for further updates on the park and its future development.
