From a Galaxy Far, Far Away to The Happiest Place on Earth…
Celebrities visiting Disney parks is nothing new. From Disneyland’s earliest days right to the present, actors, politicians, musicians, and sports stars will often visit the parks. However, there’s only a small subset of them that can do so and literally see a hologram of themselves AND a Cast Member portraying them. However, one Star Wars star was recently able to do just that.
Rey actress Daisy Ridley recently paid a visit to Disneyland, and shared details of her visit on her Instagram stories. Ridley shared a photo of her character’s holographic appearance in the queue for Rise of the Resistance, along with the excited caption: “Being IN the (top rated!) ride at Disneyland is MAD!”
Riding Rise of the Resistance wasn’t the only thing Ridley did in Galaxy’s Edge however, as she also shared an adorable snap of herself meeting up with the Cast Member portraying Rey (and Chewbacca) in the land, which must have been massive thrill for both of them, which the actress described as “Surrealist.”
In the same story, Ridley also pays tribute to her Disneyland tour guide for the day, writing “Philander, the best Disneyland tour guide there ever was.”
Ridley’s visit comes at at time when the actress – – who is scheduled to return to the Star Wars saga in an upcoming new film – – has spoken out about the somewhat divisive response to her character and the trilogy of films in which she starred. 2015’s Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens was widely praised upon release, however a vocal minority of “fans” were unhappy with Star Wars Episode VIII: The Last Jedi despite critical and general audience acclaim, which led to some “course correction” for Star Wars Episode IX: Rise of Skywalker. Said “course correction” didn’t work, as the film didn’t meet the expectations of either fans, critics, or general audiences.
Speaking on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Ridely recently spoke about the reactions to the films, saying “It’s still upsetting. You don’t want people to feel like you’ve not served the thing they’re a fan of. But [The Last Jedi] was so divisive… it felt like the first one everyone was responsive in the same way. The second, super divisive. The last one, super divisive. It didn’t change how I felt about it.”
It remains to be seen if Ridley’s return to the Star Wars universe will be less”divisive”, but the saga’s not the only film of her career she referenced during her Disneyland visit. She also shared a story not related to Star Wars, sending a snap of a band performing at California Adventure with the caption of “Also!!! Trudy’s song! The Universe is Universing!!!” referencing her recent portrayal of Gertrude Ederle in the recent Disney film Young Woman and the Sea.
