Disney Genie+ is changing in some very big ways on July 24th, 2024.
Genie+ is a paid service that reduces your wait times for attractions at Disney World and at Disneyland Resort. You buy Genie+ in the My Disney Experience App, and it allows you to book windows to ride your favorite ride using the Lightning Lane — which has shorter waits than the typical standby lines. In addition, you can buy Individual Lightning Lanes for certain rides — where you pay to book a specific window to ride that one ride (there’s a list of those “individual” rides right here). Today, we’ve learned of a BIG CHANGE coming to Disney Genie+!
Disney has announced that, well, we’ll no longer calling it Disney Genie+ at all! The service is getting a new name — two in fact. Disney Genie+ will now be called Lightning Lane Multi Pass. And Individual Lightning Lanes will now be called Lightning Lane Single Pass.
As we said, this change takes effect on July 24th. But, there’s more!
With Lightning Lane Multi Pass, you will now be able to book up to 3 Lightning Lanes in advance of your visit. This is the way FastPass+ used to work (except it was free and not paid) before that program was ended and Genie+ was introduced!
Now, the advance selections will only be available at Disney World — at Disneyland, Lightning Lane Multi Pass will continue to work the way Genie+ does now.
In addition, Disney said people staying at Disney World hotels (or other select resorts) will be able to make their Lightning Lane selections up to 7 days in advance for their entire stay up to 14 days. If you’re not staying in a Disney World hotel, you will be able to make your selections up to 3 days in advance.
Disney said the new names — Lightning Lane Multi Pass and Lightning Lane Single Pass — are simpler and will be easier to understand. These changes are a reflection of promises Disney made last year to fans to bring back a way to plan more of their day in advance.
Rest assured our team will be testing out the new system as soon as it is available (starting July 24th), so keep following us here at DFB for complete coverage!

Fewer names means leads confusion
Still very sore that this costs money- it’s ridiculous
What about non US citizens? We may a fortune for flights, on site hotels and tickets then get excluded
Could never understand why people want to PAY for a Fast Pass ! We always got them for free. I pay way too much money for my passes to the parks and will never pay for a fast pass. To each his own
I love Disney, but they need to find a way to let guests plan ahead BEFORE our vacations start. We want to enjoy our vacations and be present with our families – not looking at our phones the whole time in a frenetic state trying to book attractions. Vacation is NOT supposed to be this stressful. And this getting up at midnight and 7am nonsense also has to be changed. None of the other theme parks have this crazy over-planning, and they seem to be operating just fine.
The name change is fine but going back to Fast Pass+ is NOT good! You had a limited choice of your better rides which is AWFUL! I don’t want to and probably won’t pay extra for a limited choices!!!
Considering this is pretty much what Fast Pass+ was (other than the cost), I’m guessing that Disney leadership will try to forget that Genie+ ever existed. It certainly wasn’t cheap to roll out, brand, etc., only to kill it a few years later. It seems apparent that they should have just kept the Fast Pass+ name and charged for it if the goal was to drive revenue. We can blame the whole thing on Chapek for once again failing to listen to guests. At least the change aligns better with what guests have been asking for. Everyone can give up on the idea of making this free like it once was because Disney isn’t going to lose the revenue stream that significantly impacted spend per guest.
No matter what they to call it, most people still don’t like paying for a service that use to be free.
A simpler name?? I don’t think so!! You still have to pay for it….Fastpass was definitely easy and Free (as was Magical Express–I’ll never forgive wdw for scrapping that). Just one more way for wealthy Disney to separate us from our hard-earned money and give nothing back in return except apathetic employees, so-so food and hassles. Wdw has become too stressful and expensive. Walt must be rolling over in his grave. The magic is gone. For the first time in 60 years, and with a heavy heart, I’m saying No More.
….and Disney crapping on non-US citizens….ridiculous that Canadians, Brits and others being treated as second class Disney citizens!
