Genie+ is about to change in a BIG way.
A while back, we learned that the service was due for an update based on what Disney had shared in the past, and those updates will finally be rolling out in Disney World later this summer. While there are still plenty of questions on just how these new changes will work, we do have more details on what you can expect!
As of July 24th, Genie+ will be known as Lightning Lane Multi-Pass, and Individual Lightning Lanes will be called Lightning Lane Single Pass. In addition to these changes, Disney has announced that as of July 24th, you can:
- Make Lightning Lane plans before you get to the parks, for added confidence.
- Choose your experiences and times prior to purchasing, so you know what you’re getting.
- Book Lightning Lane passes for multiple vacation days, all in a single day.
Lightning Lane Multi-Pass will work a lot like FastPass+, where you can make up to 3 Lightning Lane selections in a park in advance of your visit. Not only that, but you can choose available times as you make your selections. But, here’s the kicker — Disney has introduced (or reintroduced, shall we say) a tiered system for rides. It looks like out of those 3 advance selections, you’ll be able to choose one experience from a higher-tiered group and two experiences (or all three) from a lower-tiered group.
At Magic Kingdom, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, Jungle Cruise, Peter Pan’s Flight, Space Mountain, and Tiana’s Bayou Adventure are all in the first tier.
At EPCOT, the first tier includes Frozen Ever After, Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure, and Soarin’ Around the World.
At Hollywood Studios, the first tier features rides like Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway, Millenium Falcon: Smugglers Run, Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith, and Slinky Dog Dash.
And over at Animal Kingdom, there will be no tiers at all — meaning you’re free to choose any of the attractions available with Lightning Lane Multi-Pass as part of your 3 selections. Avatar Flight of Passage will still be available via Lightning Lane Single Pass (A.K.A. Individual Lightning Lane).
Disney World hotel guests (and guests of other select hotels) will be able to plan Lightning Lane passes up to 7 days in advance for their entire stay (up to 14 days). All other guests can plan up to 3 days in advance.
Advance purchase windows will allow people to “secure some of their must-do rides and experiences after they’ve had some time to decide what dining reservations they want to book and any other plans they may need to consider.”
You’ll be able to purchase a Multi-Pass, Single Pass, or both depending on what you need — and there will even be a new option to purchase both in one transaction.
Of course, we’ll be bringing you all the latest updates you need to know about these new Lightning Lane changes along with letting you know how it all works once they officially roll out, so stay tuned to Disney Food Blog for more.

Catherine says
Can you book multiples of the same ride for each day? Like if I use my Space Mountain time and one is still open can I book it again?
Paul says
This seems like an amazing change for people who stay on Disney property, but I can’t help but wonder if it’s going to be worse for locals like myself with an annual pass. All of the thousands of Disney hotel guests can book rides 7 days in advance PLUS the entirety of their vacation up to 14 days. What rides and good ride times are possibly going to be left for everyone else who can only book one day at a time, three days in advance? At least the old way, everyone was on a level playing field, except for the minor advantage of resort guests being able to book an Individual Lightning Lanes a couple of hours early on the day of the visit. Maybe I’m missing something with the new way? What I described seems like how it’s going to work.
Tiffany says
These changes would be great if the service was included with the ticket price, just like it was when it was called Fastpass+. Too many add on costs when you’re traveling to Disney. I miss the good old days.
Linda says
Ok now will the prices be changing as well?
Ane says
Too bad it doesn’t apply to international guests. I guess Disney doesn’t want our money anymore!
Hannah says
So seems like the 2-hour rule is gone too?
Bob says
Any info on the pricing for this??
Leslie says
This “new” tiered rides seems familiar, the ticket books back in the day. This new tiered rides, with the IP only rides, are we finally getting back to Walt’s original plans?
Lisa says
I want to know if you can book another tier 1 ride after riding your first tier 1 ride at the park if it’s available.
Travis says
I assume stacking lightning lanes with popular rides of your choice is not possible with the tier system. In fact the term stacking lanes is likely gone. That was fun to do. Go to AK in the morning and stack lightning lanes all day for MK rides to use in the evening when you park hopped there plus the individual lanes for tron and mine train also used in the evening.

My family is the middle of our planned trip on July 24…. What do they mean by it ‘starts’ on July 24? is that the day that people with upcoming trips can start to purchase the new system in advance, or the first day that it is actually implemented for use in the parks (and those of us currently there will have had an opportunity to set up things in advance)? I’m not thrilled at the idea of having to pay up front for more things that used to be included in the ticket price, but I need to know how this is going to affect our trip I have just made the final payment for
I do realize this is a lack of info on Disney’s part, and not DFB’s fault. This post has more info than I was able to find on my own yesterday. I will keep watching and hope that there is further clarification from Disney, and I thank you for the diligence of the whole DFB team in helping me be prepared for everything on a trip to WDW.

Is Test Track in refurbishment? I notice it isn’t listed. Do you foresee it being in Tier A or B?
Elise Chilbert says
I know you can book another once youve tapped in or used one LL in the park. Can you choose a second tier one ride at that time?
DFB Gigi says
Hi Brian! Yes, Test Track is currently undergoing a refurbishment and we do not yet know which tier it will be in once it’s complete.
DFB Gigi says
Hi Melinda! When Disney says it starts on July 24th, they mean that is the day it will roll out. Let’s say that you have a trip planned for July 20-July 28th. You will have to use the Genie+ system from July 20-July 23rd and on July 24th you will have to switch over to the MultiPass system if you choose to do so because Genie+ will no longer exist per a Disney Cast Member, but I would encourage you to reach out to Guest Services directly for more clarification.
Ron says
Hi Gigi. After the first of 3 rides can we schedule a fourth ride immediately from tier 1or 2? Thanks Ron
Adrienne says
I am so excited about this change! I am sure there will be frustrations, but I absolutely hated always being on my phone, searching for Genie + options during my vacation. I also hated waking up every morning at 6:45 and starting my day stressed out! At least with this system, you can guarantee your kids a few rides and everything else is a bonus.
DFB Gigi says
Hi Ron! It is my understanding that you can, yes. It looks like it’s going to work a lot like the old FastPass system in operation.
Paul says
Ron, you can book a fourth ride after you swipe into your first ride. You don’t have to wait until you complete all three.

I called Disney customer service and asked if they knew anything about being able to book the new LL+ ahead of the July 24 start date, and she said no she had other details than what has been released publicly at this point. Kind of what I expected, and I called in part to ask the question so that they know customers with booked packages around this date are concerned about it and how it will affect their trip. (Bonus! I didn’t have to wait to get through to an actual agent to speak to – that was magical LOL!)
So from what has been said to this point, it looks like we might be able to make LL+ plans for the rest of our trip starting on the 24th – not really what you want to be doing while you are actively running around in the Magic Kingdom trying to do things and enjoy yourself. The customer service gal suggested just trying to buy the LL+ 7 days out from our trip and see what happens (ie if it works or not). There are at least a few weeks before this rolls out and maybe Disney will announce more changes/details between now and our trip.
Tim says
Test Track will without question be Tier 1 while they will probably move one of the current Tier 1s to Tier 2 at that time.
Currently no one in their right mind would buy this at Epcot given that the Tier 2 attractions don’t require an LL.
Robin G says
Are virtual queues still going to be offered or are you going to have to individually buy Tron, Guardians etc…?
DFB Gigi says
Hi Robin! As of right now, virtual queues will still exist. We are always keeping a close eye on the situation, however, and will report if that changes.
DFB Gigi says
That was my understanding as well, Melissa. Thank you so much for sharing your interaction with the Cast Member!
Burlyn Rogers says
As some have already noted, Disney is taking ride categories back to the 1950’s. How I loved the E-ticket rides. How about going back to the 1950’s prices, at least for the food!
Linsey Watson says
Is there any information on character meets? They aren’t listed under the tiers
Ck says
And my estimate of rides for a week for family of 5 is about $1200!! This crazy that that’s an addition to the $3200 to just get in to the parks.
