UPDATED November 7, 2024
Listen, your 2025 trip to Disney World is coming up sooner than you think!
As we said, 2025 is right around the corner which means you’ve really got no time to waste making all the preparations for which hotel you’re going to stay at, the food you’re going to eat, and what’s going to go in your suitcase! But there’s one thing that might have missed your radar and that is closures at Disney World in 2025. We’ve got your back — which is why we’ve brought you a handy dandy list of them so you don’t have to do all the work yourself (we’ve got you)! Let’s go!
Let’s waste no time and dive right into the full list of important Disney World Closures in 2025 that you need to know about! Let’s go!
Magic Kingdom
Tom Sawyer Island and Liberty Square Riverboat
Have you heard the news?! TWO brand new CARS attractions are coming to Magic Kingdom! This is HUGE news, and comes alongside of a new Villains Land being announced for the park, as well. But, alas, with a BIG HELLO comes a goodbye…
The Rivers of America (home to the Liberty Square Riverboat) and Tom Sawyer Island will be transformed into this brand-new land coming to the park. That means that Cars land will be located in Frontierland and as Disney wrote will, “put our guests in the driver’s seat as we—quite literally—explore a new frontier in Frontierland.”
Though we do not have an official closing date just yet for these two classic attractions, Disney has confirmed that construction on this new area is expected to begin in early 2025. So if you get the chance, be sure to explore Tom Sawyer Island or enjoy a trip on The Rivers of America one last time!

Big Thunder Mountain Railroad
It’s been announced on the Disney World website that Big Thunder Mountain Railroad will be closing for an extended closure. The site shares that the ride will close on January 6th, 2025, and won’t open again until 2026!
The message also notes that it will be reopening “with a little bit of new magic,” and we’ll keep you posted on what that means for THE WILDEST RIDE IN THE WILDERNESS as soon as it is revealed!
EPCOT
Test Track
If you didn’t already know, Test Track closed for a HUGE makeover back on June 17th.
Disney stated that this new version of Test Track takes its inspiration from an OG ride — World of Motion. Imagineers are adding new show scenes that will showcase technological advances and show “how our lifestyles and relationships to mobility connect everyone.” You will take a joy ride through scenes focusing on onboard technology, customization, and personalization, ending with a trip through a scenic outdoor route.
At this time, a specific reopening date has not been announced, but Disney has shared that the attraction will reopen in 2025, so we can presume it will be closed for a portion of the year.

Disney’s Animal Kingdom
A NEW LAND themed to the Tropical Americas is coming to Disney’s Animal Kingdom park in 2027. Get ready to step into Pueblo Esperanza! Pueblo Esperanza will become home to two signature attractions — an Encanto ride featuring the Madrigal family and a new Indiana Jones adventure ride! A Carousel will also provide another ride option.
With the official confirmation of this upcoming land, Disney confirmed that what is now DinoLand, U.S.A. will be transformed into Pueblo Esperanza.
The closure of DinoLand will take place in phases, and Disney has shared that the last day for TriceraTop Spin, Fossil Fun Games, and Chester & Hester’s Dinosaur Treasures at Animal Kingdom is January 12th, 2025.
But DINOSAUR, the Boneyard, Restaurantosaurus, Dino-Bite Snacks, and Trilo-Bites will stay open for now, so there are still DinoLand memories to make, my friends! We’ll keep you posted on any new information on these spots as soon as it becomes available.
Disney’s Hollywood Studios
Voyage of the Little Mermaid
Disney announced in December 2023 that a NEW show — “The Little Mermaid — A Musical Adventure” — is coming to Disney’s Hollywood Studios! It will open in the summer of 2025.
The new show will be a reimagined show inspired by the original animated classic from Walt Disney Animation Studios. “The Little Mermaid — A Musical Adventure” will premiere at the Animation Courtyard theater. When it opens, we can expect musical numbers like “Part of Your World,” “Poor Unfortunate Souls,” and “Kiss the Girl!”
However, with the announcement of the new production, Disney confirmed that Voyage of the Little Mermaid is permanently closed in the park.
Disney World Water Parks
Disney World has two water parks: Blizzard Beach and Typhoon Lagoon. These operate on a rotating basis, so when one is open, the other is closed.
Right now (as of November 4, 2024) Blizzard Beach is open while Typhoon Lagoon is closed. It goes without saying (but we’ll say it anyway) that when one water park is closed, those rides and attractions will be completely inaccessible during your trip.
Bay Lake Tower
Bay Lake Tower at Disney’s Contemporary Resort will be undergoing room refurbishment work from September 2024 to September 2025. You read that correctly — a whole year of construction work!
The main thing to note is that you will be seeing and hearing construction work in Bay Lake Tower and you might have to take detours, so just stay vigilant.
Disney’s Yacht Club
Disney’s Yacht Club Resort will also be undergoing room refurbishment work from January 2025 through May 2025. It isn’t quite clear if the work will be a light refurb or a full-on reimagining of the rooms (we’ll keep you posted).
Stormalong Bay and Shipwreck Pool (which are shared by Disney’s Yacht and Beach Club Resorts) will undergo routine maintenance from January 2025 to June 2025. These pools are among the top favorites at the Disney World resorts.
The other pools at the hotel like the Tidal, Admiral, and Dunes Cove leisure pools will still be open, so you can still spend your time relaxing at the pool.
Why You (Probably) Shouldn’t Stay at Disney’s Yacht Club Resort in 2025
Fantasia Pool
Staying on the topic of pools, the Fantasia Pool over at Disney’s All-Star Movies Resort will also undergo routine maintenance from January 2025 to April 2025.
While the refurbishment is happening, the Donald Duck pool will still be open, so you can enjoy a pool during your stay.
CHANGE Announced for Pool Closure at a Disney World Hotel
Perennial Closures
There are a couple of things that close annually in January for refurbishment like the Skyliner and the water rides at Disney World. Let’s start with the Skyliner.
In 2024, it closed from January 16th – 27th, which wasn’t too long. We might see a similar closure for it in 2025. We found out the official dates for the 2024 refurb back in October 2023, so we’ll probably find out about the 2025 refurb in October 2024. We’ll keep you posted!

Next, let’s talk about the water rides that tend to close in January. Kali River Rapids in Disney’s Animal Kingdom closed for its refurb from January 8th to March 15th, 2024. We can expect to see a similar closure in 2025. We’ll keep you updated on the official dates when Disney releases them!
Tiana’s Bayou Adventure in Magic Kingdom could potentially see a closure in January when the temperature gets quite low, but we don’t have an official word, so we’ll have to wait for Disney to share more!

Planning trip in fall of 2025. Concerned about when to book hotel. Do it by fall 2024 or wait watch for prices and deals that might come later.
