It’s a GREAT time to be a millennial Disney fan!
Not only did we get to experience an entirely new Disney Channel Nite event, with old throwbacks to Kim Possible, Hannah Montana, and even The Suite Life of Zack and Cody, but we’ve also got the sneaking suspicion that a sequel one of our favorite films of the early 2000s (which was a remake itself) is closer than we might think!
A while back, we learned that a Freaky Friday sequel was in the works based on the 2003 Disney film starring Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan — and now, we have an update! The film is officially in production with a projected release date of sometime in 2025. Walt Disney Studios shared a photo of “The Colemans” — Curtis and Lohan — on the movie’s set!

Disney also shared a little sneak peek behind the scenes of the photoshoot they did to share and promote the new movie, which both Curtis and Lohan have signed on for. According to Variety, Mark Harmon, Chad Michael Murray, Christina Vidal Mitchell, Haley Hudson, Lucille Soong, Stephen Tobolowsky, and Rosalind Chao will be reprising their roles.

The original cast will be joined by newcomers Julia Butters, Manny Jacinto, Maitreyi Ramakrishnan, and Sophia Hammons with Nisha Ganatra directing. As of now, Disney hasn’t released any details about what we might see happen in the sequel, but we’ll be keeping an eye out for updates.
