Every passenger wants to be a cat…
We already know a lot about the Disney Treasure, the Disney Cruise Line’s upcoming sixth ship, scheduled for its first voyage later this year. The Treasure is going to feature new dining offerings including lounges based on the Haunted Mansion and the Jungle Cruise and a restaurant themed to Coco. Now Disney has revealed the ship will also feature another lounge themed to a classic animated feature from the company’s storied past.
In late June 2024, Disney announced that the Treasure will feature the Scat Cat Lounge, a jazz club-style venue themed after the 1970 animated classic The Aristocats, with specific inspiration coming from the film’s “Ev’rybody Wants to be a Cat” sequence.
That sequence is also immortalized with a massive black-and-white statement wall that extends through the center of the lounge. According to Disney, the wall frames a “groovy neon sign with the lyrics, ‘Ev’rybody Wants to be A Cat.’ Reminiscent of piano keys, the wall will honor the important role that music played throughout the film.”
Overall, the Scat Cat Lounge will take many design cues from the Treasure’s Agrabah-inspired Grand Hall. The venue will include a complementary color palette and Middle Eastern décor that will “blend seamlessly” with the venue’s Aristocats theme.
While the club will maintain this elegant aesthetic, there are numerous direct references to the film. These include a subtle “parade of silhouetted cats, all representing characters from the film” that “will welcome guests to Scat Cat Lounge at the entry and lead the way into the venue.” There’s also the lounge’s distinct carpet, which is inspired by the “ornate French style rugs scattered throughout Madame Adelaide Bonfamille’s swanky Parisian home” according to Disney.
The Lounge’s piano will feature colorful paw marks in paint, referencing the scene in the film where Toulouse leaves similar prints on a piano. Finally, the menu will feature numerous drinks themed to the film, including the Créme de la Créme Martini and The Cat Drink.
The Scat Cat Lounge will also include smaller references to the film including a door handle modeled after Scat Cat’s “signature instrument” at the entrance, and hidden depictions of Roquefort, “the devoted mouse companion of Duchess and her kittens” as opposed to the typical hidden Mickeys.
The venue will also feature a final cat-themed easter egg not directly related to the film. A poster hanging outside the Cat Scratch Lounge will feature an image of a group of cats playing instruments. These aren’t just any cats, however. According to Disney, “Each cat depicted in the artwork will be drawn in the image of a beloved pet belonging to someone from the project team that helped design and build Scat Cat Lounge.”
The Aristocats-themed Cat Scratch Lounge promises to add a groovy new option to the Disney Treasure’s expanding litany of dining options. Stay tuned to DFB for further updates on the ship’s progress as its maiden voyage approaches.
