The soundtrack to Tiana’s Bayou Adventure is here!
Music plays a very important role in the Magic Kingdom’s brand-new attraction, Tiana’s Bayou Adventure! In fact, the whole ride’s plot is predicated on assembling a band of critters to play at Tiana’s big bash! Several musical heavyweights were brought in to work on the attraction and its climactic original song, and now you can listen to their work from the comfort of your own home!
On June 28th, the same day that Tiana’s Bayou Adventure opened to the general public at Disney World, Walt Disney Records released the ride’s soundtrack across all streaming platforms.
The release features the attraction’s new finale song, “Special Spice,” which was written, produced, and performed by PJ Morton, with vocals by original Tiana-voice actress Anika Noni Rose, as well as new renditions of familiar favorites from Walt Disney Animation Studios’ The Princess and the Frog including “Gonna Take You There” and “Down in New Orleans.”
In conjunction with the release, Disney also dropped a new behind-the-scenes video of Leah Chase Kamata — the daughter of Leah Chase, one of the major real-life inspirations for Tiana — recording her rendition of “Do You Know What It Means to Miss New Orleans?” which is featured on the attraction.
According to Disney, “Grammy-Award winners PJ Morton and Terence Blanchard recorded this special soundtrack in New Orleans with some of the city’s most prolific talent from Jon Batiste to Trombone Shorty, Jon Clearly, and more.”
On an episode of Disney’s YouTube series, We Call It Imagineering, released earlier this year, Moore spoke of how excited he was to compose a song for a Disney attraction: “Just as a kid, I’ve always been inspired by the big songs of Disney. For me and my sister, it started with Little Mermaid, singing those songs. So it’s just always been a part of our lives. I always feel like they were so well written, you know timeless. So as a young songwriter, I always said I wanted to write timeless things. Never in my wildest dreams did I think it would happen this way. You know an attraction is just such a different thing, a physical thing that lives.”
Moore continued speaking about the writing of “Special Spice” specifically, saying, “We knew we wanted a celebration, we knew we wanted something that would welcome people in… Honor what’s been there, but you also have to introduce something new and fresh to it. You have to get lyrics that speak to everyone and speak the right way, so it was a fun process for me as a songwriter.”
If you can’t make it to the Magic Kingdom (or Disneyland later this year) to experience Tiana’s Bayou Adventure firsthand, you can still transport yourself to the film’s version of New Orleans by streaming the soundtrack! Stay tuned to DFB for more Tiana’s updates.
