This weekend is going to be a BUSY one at Magic Kingdom!
It can be tough to predict how busy a Disney World theme park will be on any given day, but there are a few indicators that the experts know to watch for. For example, holidays or days when many people have work and school off are almost always very busy. Also, if park passes are sold out for Annual Passholders and other select ticket holders, you know that lots of people are planning to visit the parks. On one day this week, both of those are true!
Magic Kingdom is completely SOLD OUT on July 4th! Park passes for Annual Passholders and other select ticket holders are totally gone.
Right now, it’s only Magic Kingdom that’s sold out — all other parks (EPCOT, Disney’s Animal Kingdom, and Disney’s Hollywood Studios) still have availability.
Note that the Pirate and Pixie Annual Pass tiers were already blocked out for the holiday weekend, but passes have sold out for the Incredi-Pass and Sorcerer tiers as well.
So will this affect your upcoming visit? You might not need a park pass at all to visit. Disney World no longer requires park pass reservations for most guests, though some visitors still need to make one. Here’s a list of who does and doesn’t need a park pass:
No Theme Park Reservation Required
- Date-based 1-day ticket
- Date-based multi-day ticket
- Vacation package with date-based tickets
Theme Park Reservation Required:
- Student group tickets
- Sport and Convention tickets
- Florida Resident Disney Thrills Ticket
- Disney Military Salute Ticket
- Annual Pass
- All other ticket types not mentioned above
If you are in the “Theme Park Reservation Required” group and haven’t gotten your pass for July 4th, you’ll need to watch the website and check for new availability to open up. Or, you can make a park pass reservation for a different park — you can always park hop to Magic Kingdom later as long as that park doesn’t reach capacity!

Regardless of your park pass situation, make sure you note that crowds in Magic Kingdom are likely going to be pretty big on the 4th. Lots of people visit to celebrate the holiday, grab some patriotic treats, and watch the themed fireworks show that night.
Over in EPCOT, you can celebrate by visiting Mickey and his pals dressed in patriotic gear at the American Adventure pavilion and watching the “Heartbeat of Freedom” add-on at the end of the EPCOT fireworks show.
Most of the parks and a few hotels have Fourth of July-themed treats this weekend, and some of those treats are already available now! So if you’re not able to be in Magic Kingdom to celebrate the holiday, you can still find some ways to celebrate in other areas of Disney World.
