What if we told you that there was one place in Disney World that’s giving us major high school vibes?
We’ll give you a hint — it’s in EPCOT, it’s not a ride or a food location, BUT it IS considered an attraction. This next one will give it away, so be ready: It’s new and the majority of Disney World fans hate it. YEP, it’s CommuniCore Hall and CommuniCore Plaza.
In fact, we’ll include Celebration Gardens in here too for a specific reason we’ll explain later, but these new areas give us MAJOR high school vibes. We want you to think back to your high school. All schools look quite different from each other, but if there’s one thing most of them all have, it’s a cafeteria.
When you walk into CommuniCore Hall, or take a look at the photo below, just look around for a second and you’ll see it…IT LOOKS LIKE A HIGH SCHOOL CAFETERIA! It has those white shiny floors, the tables and chairs spread around, a few things hanging on the walls — it literally feels like we just walked from our history class to eat lunch at a way-too-early time of day.
CommuniCore Plaza may look like a courtyard to those of you who went to fancy schools, but we also think that Celebration Gardens gives us courtyard vibes too. The Walt the Dreamer statue is like your school’s mascot statue, or an important landmark of some kind, there’s random seating everywhere that kinda has a design. You’ll probably get lost the first time you walk through it and it’ll take you a few tries to really find your way around — you see where we’re going with this?
CommuniCore Hall and Plaza are planned to be used as new flex spaces for EPCOT’s festivals, and in the meantime, you can catch the new ¡Celebración Encanto! show on the CommuniCore Plaza stage. This means we aren’t seeing what this space can REALLY look like during a festival, and for Disney’s sake, we hope it transforms BIG time.
You see, the issue is, most Disney fans HATE the way CommuniCore Hall and Plaza look and are angry it took so many years to create it. Many feel it doesn’t fit with EPCOT’s theme, that it’s plain and boring, and are angry CommuniCore Plaza is mostly out in the sun with little to no seating.
For now, this high school cafeteria vibe is what we’re stuck with, but we’re hoping to see it change when EPCOT’s Food and Wine Festival begins on August 29th! Be sure to stay tuned to DFB for all the latest Disney news!

Walt the Dreamer needs a better background. CommuniCore looks like a college cafeteria

Reminds me more of a hospital cafeteria. Schools had the long bench tables.

It’s fine with me. It’s event space – it needs to be flexible, which means minimalism so that it can easily be transformed into whatever is needed. I think it’s great they have it open all the time rather than shutting it down when there isn’t a festival happening. I vote that we give it a chance to show us what it can do when it’s being used for its intended purpose before we judge it too harshly.
Badbrzl says
It looks like a time capsule from Covid socially distant times.
Carole says
wow, hate, what a big word. yes, i wish there was more seating EVERYWHERE in EPCOT but until i see and expérience it in person, i’ll reserve judgement and not get too excited.

I was there a few days ago and was so pleased being able to sit down in a space that had few people in it and get some ac and quiet. It was almost like a DVC lounge!
