Tokyo Disney has announced a NEW drone show!
The Tokyo Disney Resort has announced a new traveling drone show that will be part of various fireworks festivals across Japan, to deliver “dreams and smiles to people nationwide.”
The new show, called Magic in the Air, will feature approximately 1,500 drones throughout its 15-minute runtime. The drones will take various shapes including “characters such as Mickey Mouse, and scenes inspired by the Walt Disney Animation Studios films Beauty and the Beast and The Little Mermaid.
The show will also serve as a promotional vehicle for Fantasy Springs, the new land that debuted to near-universal acclaim at Tokyo DisneySea earlier this year. The show will feature scenes themed to the three areas of Fantasy Springs, Frozen Kingdom, Rapunzel’s Forest, and Peter Pan’s Never Land. These scenes will “make guests at the fireworks festivals feel like they’ve stepped into the dreamlike world of Tokyo Disney Resort.”
According to the Oriental Land Company (OLC) — the owners of the Tokyo Disney Resort — “This year’s special drone show has even more scenes than last year’s show. Guests can look forward to the “Tokyo Disney Resort Special Drone Show Magic in the Air bringing fantasy and dreams to guests attending fireworks festivals throughout Japan.”
The show is another addition to the quickly growing drone show catalog at Disney properties worldwide. Hong Kong Disneyland has had a drone show since 2023, while Disneyland Paris has featured drones for a few years, including the Disney Electrical Sky Parade drone show since January of 2024.
Meanwhile, Walt Disney World saw the debut of the Disney Dreams That Soar show at Disney Springs in the late spring of 2024.
The first major drone show at a U.S. Disney property, Dreams That Soar features “hundreds of state-of-the-art drones “dancing” across the sky, choreographed to a soaring musical score of iconic Disney music and memorable dialogue from beloved Disney movies. Watch them fly in a constant state of transformation—designing towering elements that are 400-feet tall and creating images of some of your favorite Disney characters from Toy Story, Coco, Dumbo, Peter Pan, Up, the Star Wars saga and more!”
The Tokyo Disney Resort is launching a new traveling drone show around Japan, which will help promote the brand-new Fantasy Springs Land. Overall, drone shows like this seem like they’re going to be a massive part of Disney’s nighttime plans at their resorts for years to come.
