Another Magic Kingdom ride is temporarily CLOSING soon, and this one’s a biggie.
Lots of changes have been happening at Disney World’s most popular park recently. Tiana’s Bayou Adventure officially opened in Frontierland, and the nearby Frontierland Shootin’ Arcade closed down around the same time. That Arcade is being refurbished to become a Disney Vacation Club lounge. Also in Frontierland, the Country Bear Jamboree show has been closed as Disney re-works some of the songs. In Fantasyland, Peter Pan’s Flight has closed for a refurbishment as well.
If you hop over to the nearby Adventureland, you’ll find another attraction closure in just a few weeks!
According to the Disney World website, the Jungle Cruise ride will close on August 26th for a refurbishment.
This closure does not have an end date yet. There is no reopening date listed on the attraction’s webpage, and the calendar only shows hours through September 7th at this time. So it seems like the ride will remain closed at least through that date and possibly longer, though Disney could update the calendar later on to reopen the ride earlier than planned.
UPDATE: Disney has removed Jungle Cruise from the list of attractions that will be open during Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party and Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party, so this closure might be longer than we expect. We’ll watch for more updates.
UPDATE 2: Disney has updated the website to include a message that reads, “Beginning August 26, 2024, Jungle Cruise will temporarily close for refurbishment. The attraction is scheduled to reopen for Guests before the winter holidays begin at Walt Disney World.”
UPDATE 3: Disney has updated the website with the reopening date for Jungle Cruise! The ride will reopen on October 17th, 2024 — toward the end of the Halloween season at Magic Kingdom.
The Jungle Cruise ride had some BIG changes introduced a few years ago, with several scenes being updated and new storylines introduced. The closure coming up in August is likely just for routine maintenance, but we’ll be watching out for any news about changes coming to the ride.
Watch out for a few more closures happening in Magic Kingdom this summer. As we mentioned before, Peter Pan’s Flight (a popular ride in Fantasyland) is currently closed and will remain closed through August 20th. We’re happy to see that it will at least reopen before Jungle Cruise closes, as it’d be tough on the park to have two of the most popular rides closed at the same time.
Country Bear Jamboree is now closed but will be reopening soon (on July 17th) with the bears’ “all-new act.”
In Adventureland, the Tortuga Taven restaurant has been closed for a few weeks. This location is usually just open seasonally, but we would have expected it to be open during the busy summer months.
Disney has mentioned several big new additions coming to Magic Kingdom, such as a Pirates of the Caribbean-themed lounge in Adventureland, the DVC lounge coming to Frontierland, and a major expansion planned “beyond Big Thunder Mountain Railroad.” That big expansion is likely years away from opening, but lands themed to Coco, Encanto, and Disney villains have been proposed.

The last two times we rode Jungle Cruise, we had a very weak skipper whose jokes fell flat. So disappointing after a 45 minute wait. I would not stand in a line to ride this ride again.
